We talked about having children well before getting married; we both wanted to be parents and knew we could offer so much love and opportunity to a child. We consider adoption "The Gift We Could Not Give Each Other", which is the title of a poem the adoption agency gave us when Katelyn was born. When we found out we could not have our own biological child, we quickly realized it wasn't being pregnant that we wanted so badly, it was to be parents and have a family. It was the easiest decision we have made as a couple to choose adoption to start our family. When we received the phone call that a birthmother had chosen us to adopt her child, you cannot even imagine the joy and happiness that we were overwhelmed with. That someone would do something so selfless and loving for their unborn child just overwhelmed us and made us very emotional.

We started preparing our home for the new arrival, anxiously awaiting the birth of this angel child.

When we got the call that our birth mom was in labor, we rushed as fast as we could to the hospital and when we walked in the room and saw Katelyn and her birthmother, we were all instantly connected for life. It was an amazing, joyous, miracle that took place. We thank God for Katelyn's birth mom every day and will for the rest of our lives. Katelyn is truly an angel and we cannot imagine life without her. We continue to send pictures and letters updating her birth mom on how she is developing and growing. We will keep our promise to do this for as long as her birth mom would like.

Adoption is a wonderful miracle that we are so proud to be a part of and look forward to having another adoption story as part of our family.

Without a doubt we plan to always have you as part of our extended family in our hearts. We have a scrapbook for Katelyn that is her adoption story and we read books to her about adoption and add in quotes from her story. We will do the same for your child and always say prayers for you and thank God for you every night before going to bed, like we do for Katelyn's birthparents. We will talk about you, the birth parent(s), as our angel(s) who gave us a gift from God.

Why Steve will be a great parent (by Mauri): Steve is unique in so many ways and that is why I fell in love with him. One of the first qualities I loved about Steve is how loving and caring he is. He impressed me right away with how he is always there for his friends and family. There have been several times since I have known Steve that his Mother or Grandmother had something tragic happen, and Steve dropped everything to be by their side and do what he could to help, or just be there for them. He does the same for me. He has his priorities straight in life, and he is the most patient, kind, caring, understanding man I know. He always leads by example and reminds me of how important that is in life. I fell in love with him because of all this and the fact that he is such a strong, dependable person.

Steve is such a good Father to Katelyn, he truly is amazing with her. When he comes home from work she is so excited and runs to him and gives him a great big hug. He is so loving and plays with her in her tent, makes tents for her out of the furniture and blankets. Steve works hard at his job, but he also plays hard in life. Seeing how he is with me, our daughter, with my nephews, with his brother, and other children we have in our lives, only proves to me more and more what a great Daddy he is.

Why Mauri will be a great parent (by Steve): My wife Mauri is the kindest and most thoughtful person that you could ever meet. She is always thinking of others and is always there when you need her. On one occasion, she had some clothes set aside to take to the Goodwill. I happened to notice that a few items contained money in the pockets. She acknowledged that she was aware of this and thought that this extra present would really make someone's day. Not many people will make the effort to add a good deed on top of another good deed. It is no wonder why she has so many friends. Mauri always has a smile on her face and a positive attitude. People are instantly attracted to her charismatic personality. She has worked hard her entire life and has earned all of the rewards gained along the way, however she is very appreciative for all of the nice things she has in her life. She has a wide range of skills and talents to pass on to our future children. I am very fortunate to be married to such an amazing individual.

Mauri is a wonderful Mother, she was meant to be a mother. She loves to play with Katelyn, and is always there for her no matter what. She works hard to get done early at her job every day so she can rush to go get Katie and spend the rest of the day with her.
