How Adoption Has Affected Us Personally
Adoption has been an important part of Rebecca's life. All four of her sisters are adopted. Her parents never kept their adoption a secret and neither will John and Rebecca. Her sisters have always known how special they are because they were wanted so much. Rebecca's parents also gave a temporary home to over forty foster children. Rebecca's sister and her husband, Amy and Bill, are currently foster parents and are hoping to adopt through the foster care program. Another one of her sisters and her husband, Susan and Jim, are also foster parents and have adopted a thirteen year old girl in
addition to having three biological children.
After unsuccessful attempts with infertility treatments, we have chosen to focus our attention on building our family through adoption. After all, we have seen the success of adoption countless times in our own lives. The infertility
experience has only drawn us closer together and has reminded us over and over again of our desire to be parents. Our family and friends are so excited about our plans to adopt and have already begun praying for the birthmother of the child we will be raising.
Our Religious Beliefs
We are both Christians with a passion to follow Christ. We attend a Baptist church that is just a couple of miles from our home. Although we are involved in various ministries of the church, our favorite is leading a Sunday school class for young married couples. We have made many new wonderful friends through the class. Our class members enjoy getting together at the park, doing "white elephant" gift exchanges, helping needy families at Christmas time, providing meals for new parents, and just getting together in general. There is never a dull moment when we meet. The children, ranging in age from newborn to 14, keep us all entertained. Your child will be encouraged to participate in Sunday School, children’s choir and various other programs to build his or her spiritual walk with Jesus Christ.
Our Strengths
Happy Together
Rebecca says that John is the most kind-hearted man she has ever met. He is so much fun to be around. He lights up a room just by being in it. John has a
wonderful sense of humor. He is very quick-witted. Everyone who meets him likes him immediately. He is a hard worker and provider for the family. He is the fix-it man around the house, and he also helps with the cooking, cleaning, and laundry. He does it all! After ten years of marriage, he still opens Rebecca's car door and takes her on dates. He treats her like a princess.
John says that Rebecca is sweet and beautiful with a compassionate heart. Her smile and light-hearted demeanor captivates him. Not one to be the life of the party, Rebecca prefers to see to it that others around her are enjoying themselves and are comfortable. Rebecca thinks the world of John and makes sure he knows that she does. She sees to it that he is well taken care of. Rebecca is an organizer and planner and tends to be the equalizer to John's happy-go-lucky attitude. She keeps the home running like a well-oiled machine.
We feel strongly that when God blesses us with a child, we are to be the ones to nurture and influence him or her. That is why Rebecca will quit teaching to be a stay-at-home mom. The child will go on walks, will attend lap time with mommy at the public library, and will visit the local nature center. The best part of the day will be when John comes home from work. He cannot wait to have daddy's little helper or daddy's little angel. We currently make it a priority to spend time together every evening. This will continue as the three of us play outside, ride bikes, attend a sporting event, read, or play games together.
