How Adoption Has Affected Us
Stephanie was away in college when her father and stepmother adopted her youngest sister, but even from that distance she could see what an amazing event it was for them. Her stepmother could not have children, and having a baby come into their lives was a tremendous blessing. Little did Stephanie know that almost twenty years later, she would experience the same problems in having children, and the same blessing of adoption!
Four months after our wedding, we were overjoyed to learn Stephanie was pregnant. But Stephanie miscarried in her
second trimester due to uterine fibroids, and subsequent surgeries to remove the fibroids have made it difficult for Stephanie to carry to term. After Stephanie's third miscarriage, we began considering adoption. Like many parents who have suffered through multiple miscarriages, we entered into the adoption process with very little confidence that we would become parents. But before we knew it, we were the very proud parents of our darling daughter!
Adoption has already fulfilled our dreams of becoming parents, and we are very excited about further growing our family through adoption.
Our Pets Are Important to Us
Pebbles & Bam Bam at Christmas
Stephanie brought our two Chihuahuas into the marriage, but David quickly embraced them as his own. Having our furry dependents has truly enriched our lives! In the nearly 11 years they have been with us (6 years for David), they have made us laugh every day! There's a good reason pet owners live longer!
Our smaller Chihuahua is truly unique. She has a laundry list of quirky behaviors: she won't eat her kibble unless she is handfed each piece; she leans against the couch and rubs herself along it like a cat; and she only barks about twice per year!
Our other Chihuahua is the polar opposite. She is a total food hound, loves to bark at anything that moves, and begs every night for a long walk. You would never know she just turned 11! Both dogs are funny, loving, and greatly loved.
The most important thing our dogs brought to our lives is the experience of nurturing and being responsible for a small life. The experiences we had with our dogs gave us a taste of the wonderful experiences to come in raising a child. Now we are very happy to be sharing the experience of caring for another being with our daughter. Our dogs give us a wonderful opportunity to teach our daughter a sense of responsibility.
