How Adoption Has Affected Us Personally

We are both very much in favor of adoption, but Mike has a special interest as he was adopted as an infant. He has grown up with his adopting mother as his role model and is thankful that she took the steps to start a family by adoption. He has often thought about his birth mom and the circumstances of her decision. It seems like life is always so full of challenges that he has never really been able to explore taking the additional steps of finding out more information regarding her as it was a closed adoption. He has always wondered if his birth mother thought about how he is doing or wishes she had more information about him. We have decided that we will provide as much information as we can to the birth mother so that she will know her important decision was the right one. It will be reinforced often with pictures and letters.

Education We Will Provide

Lana has a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and Mike has a Bachelors Degree in Geology so we both believe in the importance of education. One of the unique qualities of our family life is that we home school our children. We decided when Eli was to start kindergarten that we wanted to try it and have fallen in love with it. Our boys have never been to a daycare because one of us has always been able to be home with them- so we thought- why not home school! Mike built a school room in the garage and Lana decorated!! We have great fun as a family learning together and enjoying each others accomplishments. We also go to a home school network once a week where both boys go to class with other children their age. Eli has 20 children in his class. There they do PE, music, Spanish and Sign Language just to name a few. We also take a lot of field trips during the week and enjoy seeing our friends that attend there. The boys love school and are excelling in their grades! Our best friends who also home school, have children that are the same ages as our boys. It's great to have friends to discuss issues with and do fun activities or play dates with. Last year we had a Christmas craft day. The cookies were fun to make and even better to eat!

Our Boys

The Boys with Some of Our Pets

We have 2 boys named Eli, who is 8, and Ethan, who is 6. They are awesome boys and best friends. You will find them outside most of the time playing farmers, or riding their four-wheelers. They also love to play with the animals or see who can find the most eggs. Most of the adventures they have, they experience together. Whether it's climbing in dad's fire truck or riding on Grandpa's tractor, they always have fun doing it. They both have been asking for a sister for a long time. It's almost always one of the first things they pray for or mention when they see a baby. We've already discussed where another baby will lay for movie nights in Mom and Dad's bed and when she'll say her night time family prayers!! Ethan wants to be a big brother and Eli is anxious to take care of another sibling. We can't wait to share our happy family with another child.
