Our Cultural Heritage
We both grew up in Amish families. We feel the Amish way of life is a more laid back, self sufficient life style. The different communities range from very conservative to very liberal. We believe our Amish Heritage should be credited for our strong work ethics, moral values and honesty. These are all values we want to pass on to your child. Due to some issues in the church we decided we needed something more. Mahlon left the Amish way of life in 1998 and Teresa left in 2005. Some of our best friends are with the Amish and we have a great relationship with them. At this time we are going to a local Christian church.
It was the Amish way of life to keep the children at home after 8th grade and teach them hands on rather than a high school education. We are both happy with the work we do for a living but are always excited about learning new things and are open to a higher education in the future. Your child will have every opportunity at an excellent education. Because we are not in the Amish church anymore this child will complete high school and go on to college if he or she prefers.
Some of Our Childhood Memories and Fun Games, Events and Hobbies We Look Forward to Sharing with a Child
We have many happy times growing up with our families. Mahlon's Grandma, his Mom, aunts and cousins would all get together and head out to a wild dewberry patch or to a strawberry patch. They would pick berries and make a grand outing of it at the same time. They would have a wonderful day and come home with enough berries for everyone. In the evening Mahlon's family would all head to his Grandma's for a birthday party. They would usually have hotdogs, homemade ice cream, the works for 20-30 people. The kids played board games or outside games while the adults caught up on the latest
news. This is such a fond memory for him.
When Teresa was growing up, usually about once a summer they would get all the local relatives together (40-50) and go swimming at the rock quarry. After swimming, they would all go up to Teresa's house and have sloppy jo sandwiches and watermelon! What a happy time!!! Every winter, when the creek froze, 30-40 youth would head to the creek to go ice skating. They would hang a couple lanterns off of the trees so everyone could see where they were going. Somebody would get a fire started close to the bank, so they could warm up when they got cold. They would always play darebase or ice hockey. After skating they would head to Grandma's to get warm before heading home.
We can't wait to take your child to the rodeos, fairs, t-ball, basketball and to all the family get-togethers. We want to take this child fishing at the appropriate age. We can't wait to see his/her eyes shine as your child achieves different challenges! We want to give your child all the support and opportunities to pursue his/her interests and hobbies. We want to explore museums and build forts as well as amusement parks. We also can't wait to introduce your child to different types of music. We love attending bluegrass festivals and country concerts. We want your child to have a well rounded experience and live life to the fullest. Some of the fun things a child can enjoy on a farm are sledding, horseback riding, nature walks and having a dog for a playmate.
Our Pets
Relaxing at Home
As a little girl, Teresa was always around dogs. They were wonderful playmates and companions. In 1999, Teresa started out with 4 dogs and ended up with a good sized kennel. The dogs were an awesome amount of work, keeping everything clean, paperwork, making sure they were all healthy and keeping up on their shots. The norm was getting up at least 2-3 times a night, especially when they were close to having pups. After we got married and wanted to have children, we decided to sell out. At this time I have 4 dogs, 2 Papillons, 1 Chihuahua and 1 Pom. Teresa has always loved dogs. Their antics, their expressions and their joy when they see you! We feel every child should have at least one or two dogs as playmates.
