How Adoption Has Affected Us
Adoption is a very important subject for us. Randy was adopted as an infant and it has been a very positive experience for him and his family. Randy's parents were always very open and honest about his adoption and wanted Randy to understand that the decision on both ends was made out of unconditional love. When we announced to our families that we had chosen to adopt, both families were ecstatic. Our families have been involved in adoption in one way or another from having other family members that were also adopted to being foster parents. Our families love children and want to be involved in the process with us and can't wait to share their love with a new family member. We want to share our adoption experience with our child and let them know that this is one of the most positive events that could ever happen.
What We Like to Do for Fun and What We Expect We’ll Like Most About Being Parents
Some people may think that we are simplistic, but sometimes less is more. We enjoy the simple things. We love to take Lucky for her evening walk on a trail near our home. There we stroll along as a family and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Some people may laugh at what we call our date night. Our hot spot is Barnes and Noble. We grab a couple of coffees and wander around the store picking out the books for our Sunday afternoon reading. We love to visit our goddaughters, Callie and Kori. Play dough mixed with a tea party and the night is set. When we are all worn out, the girls will go to bed and we get to visit with their mom and dad. We also love to have friends and family over for barbeques on summer days. Nothing can beat a good visit with your closest friends. When we are not together, it must mean that Randy is playing golf and Lynn is scrapbooking.
Being instrumental in molding a person's life is a big responsibility and it isn't anything that either of us take lightly. We know that being parents won't always be easy but nothing good in life comes without some work. The first giggle and first big smile are the things that we know will melt our hearts. We can't wait to share the milestones of first steps to driving a car. We know that our lives will never be the same in a good way. There are so many things that we want to share. We want to share books and music, games and trips. Anxious to share the learning experiences that come along the way is one of the things that will never grow old. Seeing things once again through the perspective of a child's eyes and realizing once again all the wonders that this world has to offer.
Our Pets
With Our Pets
When we were children, we both had pets and it just seemed natural to carry this over into married life. Our two pets are very special to our hearts. We have a dog named Lucky and a cat named Punkin. Lucky and Punkin are definitely friends and some of our favorite moments are watching the two of them play together. Punkin loves for Lucky to chase him around the house. Just when you least expect it, a ball of fur will flash past Lucky making the strangest sound that you have ever heard in your entire life. As the flash goes by, Lucky will jump to her feet and the chase will begin. Punkin will run to a hiding spot and this is when the whining will commence. Lucky will make the most pitiful sounds until Punkin makes another dash by her. Lucky almost seems to prance with glee. After a big chase, a nap is definitely in order. Punkin will usually hit the couch first followed by Lucky, who will swing by and give Punkin a little kiss on the top of his head. One of the most precious moments is when the two are lying next to one another sound asleep.
