What Led Us to Adoption to Build Our Family
Early on in our relationship we discussed wanting children and what an important role they would play in our lives. When we married, we immediately began trying for a family of our own. After a year of trying we met with infertility specialists and learned that Amanda had diagnoses of PCOS and endometriosis. We had several failed attempts at infertility treatment before we decided that the most important thing was to become
parents and that it did not matter whether or not the child was our biological child. We then turned our focus to adoption. We went to an adoption informational meeting and decided that it felt like the right decision for us. We attended adoption classes and spoke with friends and family who had adopted. We wanted to learn as much as we could about adoption to prepare for the experience. We chose an agency completed all of the paperwork and waited until we got the call that we had a beautiful baby boy. The moment that he was placed in our arms was the best moment of our lives. At that moment we were parents and a family was created. Once the decision was made to have another child there was no other option in our minds but to adopt again.
What Makes Us Unique
There are a few things that we feel make us unique. In regard to our relationship we have been together since high school, for over sixteen years and have been married for nine years. Another interesting fact is that we hardly ever have
disagreements. We seem to compliment each other well in our relationship with Amanda being the more sensitive and
nurturing side and Peter being the more intellectual and analytical side. We are both fairly laid back and open-minded
people and are supportive to each other in all of our endeavors. We have both chosen careers in the social work field and committed our lives to helping those less fortunate than we are. Since our move to NC Amanda has shifted her career to taking care of children by opening her own daycare center out of our home. Amanda is an excellent baker and is involved in numerous community activities. Peter enjoys being involved in athletic activities i.e. softball and soccer. We enjoy going to local sporting events and still support our Boston teams, especially the Red Sox, and usually take in a Sox game every summer up in Boston.
Our Pets
Super Alexander and Super Jenna
We have had a number of pets over the course of our lives together. To be precise we have had 3 rabbits, 3 cats, and 2 dogs together. We currently own 1 dog, a beagle named Jenna, and 3 cats Alli, Bob and Victoria. What all of these animals has in common is that they were all rescue animals adopted from animal shelters and rescue leagues of one kind or another. Having pets has been a wonderful experience for us, akin to having children. We have been able to provide a good home for animals that otherwise would not have one. We have been able to raise and teach them and watch them grow and develop. We have been able to play, have fun with them and they have provided us with much entertainment. We have given to them and received their unconditional love. It has certainly been good training for having children and has made our lives that much richer. We feel that animals are also important in children's lives. Animals teach children responsibility and how to give and receive love.
