How We Met
We were introduced by Ryan's uncle and Marci's best friend who are now married. The four of us remain the best of friends. When we met, Ryan was playing drums with a rock band. We talked briefly during one of his breaks and discovered we had many common interests. Our first date was an NHL hockey game followed by dinner at a local steak house. During the first year of our relationship, we were always in different cities, and therefore, spent lots of time on the phone. Through the course of those long conversations, we developed a deep friendship. That friendship is the foundation of the strong
marriage we enjoy today. We feel fortunate to have found each other and value each day together.
Our Leisure Time
We share a love of the outdoors. Most weekends you will find us outside biking, hiking or playing in a park. Even when our interests differ, we make them work well together. Ryan is an avid fly fisherman while Marci enjoys reading. Marci grabs a comfy chair and her favorite book while Ryan searches the water for any Trout.
We are extremely fortunate to be able to travel to Montana each year. We love Big Sky country and the beautiful landscapes; of course it never hurts to find some of the best fly fishing opportunities in the world. On our most recent visit, we took a drift boat down the Madison River and enjoyed a long day taking in the scenery and wildlife of Yellowstone. During winter visits, we enjoy skiing and snowboarding or just curling-up with a good book beside the fire. We look forward to sharing our passion for the outdoors with a child. We can envision his or her first visit to Yellowstone, ski lessons, and all of us fishing together from the banks of the Gallatin River.
When the weather spoils our outdoor adventures, we can always find indoor entertainment. We love to watch movies both at home and in the theatre. We always try to see all the movies nominated for the "Best Picture" Oscar category. This
winter we discovered the Nintendo Wii. We've spent many days competing against each other on games like "Guitar Hero" and "Mario Galaxy."
Family Traditions
Our Annual Trip to Mt. LeConte
Together, we have begun several traditions, starting with, sitting down together for dinner every night. This is our do-not-disturb-no-phone-calls-no-TV family time we enjoy each night. Dinner is when we share the day's events and express our concerns. Another tradition we have created is for Marci to bake in honor of birthdays and special achievements. It was a Devil's Food Cake for Ryan's birthday, a red velvet cake for Marci's brother and a cheesecake to mark her mother's successful completion of a 26-mile marathon. Family members enjoy the privilege of choosing their celebratory dessert while Marci remains committed to future confectionary challenges that will mark the next special occasion.
We share other traditions with our extended families. Christmas Eve is a special time for Ryan's extended family. We all gather for a traditional Christmas Eve meal and later, exchange gifts. Ryan's extended family also gathers for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter, and birthday celebrations.
With Marci's family, our favorite tradition is the annual hike to the summit of Mt. LeConte; the second highest peak in Tennessee. Each year, with ten people, including Marci's parents, brother, and nephew, we make the six-mile journey to the lodge atop the mountain. There, we enjoy the gorgeous views, an unmatchable sunrise, and a huge breakfast to fuel our journey home.
Last year's trip was particularly special. Marci's four-year-old nephew completed the hike on his own while Ryan's two-year-old cousin made her debut trip riding on her daddy's back.
