Randy’s Adoption Experience
Randy was adopted so he has some firsthand knowledge of how positive it can be. His parents adopted him when he was nine months old. At that time, most adoptions were closed and so he knows very little about his birthmother. Randy's parents have always been very open with him about being adopted. In fact, he can't remember a time when he didn't know that he was adopted and remembers enjoying sitting on his father's lap and hearing stories about the day that his mom and dad picked him up and took him home. Randy has come to truly appreciate how fortunate he was to be adopted. His parents provided him with a loving and stable environment in which he could grow and pursue his own interests and identity. Their caring and support have helped Randy to become the person he is today, a successful psychologist, loving husband, and an above average cheesecake baker. Randy learned a lot from them and someday hopes that he can do the same for a child.
Our Favorite Vacation Spots
The Outer Banks of North Carolina has become our favorite vacation spot. About five years ago we along with Sue's brothers and parents decided to rent a vacation home. It proved to be a great success as all eleven of us (four adult couples and three kids) had fun swimming in the pool, playing on the beach and having sit down family dinners. The first year also gave Sue a chance to explore some local lighthouses and Randy a chance to add to his collection of funny t-shirts. Every year we find something new to explore, in addition to revisiting some of our favorite spots. We love how peaceful this beach is. It is not overrun with tourists so kids can run and play without parents worrying that they will get lost in a crowd. This vacation has become an event that we look forward to every year. It gives us a chance to reconnect as a family and to get some exercise climbing a previously unexplored lighthouse.
A second vacation that we enjoy is going to see Randy's parents in Massachusetts. They own a timeshare in Cape Cod and every couple of years, we fly up to spend a week with them. Sue is fascinated with the Cape Cod cottages and also loves taking the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. Traveling to Massachusetts also gives Randy a chance to see several of his friends from college, all of whom were the groomsmen in our wedding and who have started to have families of their own. We really look forward to these two weeks each year as it gives us a chance to take a break from our regular routine and enjoy some time with our family and friends.
What We Do for Fun
Princess Cake We Made for a Family Friend
An activity that we like to do together is cake decorating. This hobby started about three years ago when Randy bought a set of four cake decorating classes for Sue as a Valentine's Day present. His idea was that it would be a fun activity that we could do together. The teacher was really engaging, and as Randy had hoped we both had a lot of fun learning how to decorate a cake. After that class we decided to try other classes in candy making and petti fours, and found that decorating was something that we both really like to do. Since that time we have taken more classes and have made several cakes for our friends including a princess castle, Winnie the Pooh and a honey bee. We plan to continue taking courses just for fun and hope that this will also be a hobby that we can share with your child.
In addition to cake decorating, both of us enjoy going to the movies and reading. We also like spending times outdoors, including taking walks around our neighborhood and playing in the park with our friends and their children.
