| How Adoption Has Affected Us Personally |
Written by Terry: We are fortunate to be a part of an amazing adoption experience. Fifty-six years ago my Father's Mother placed a set of twins, a boy and girl, for adoption. You might guess that back in those days adoption was a very hush-hush thing so my Father and his two younger brothers knew nothing of the birth of younger siblings let alone their being placed for adoption. My Father's Mother was foreign to the United States, barely established here from the Ukraine; they were financially strapped and could not afford to take care of two more children. My Father's Mother has since passed away, so we can only piece this story together through the twins and a few adoption records.
I received a call one day, from the twins, asking many probing questions about my family history, specifically my Father. He knew nothing about any adoption and was very skeptical, as you can imagine, about having any other siblings, than the brothers he grew up with. My Father spoke with the twins and sure enough; they are his youngest siblings. Their names are Jack and Jill and today we share a very special bond with them. Since our first meeting ten years ago; they have been a very intricate part of our family. My Father is overjoyed to have them in his life; he is grateful that he has the chance, now, to spend time with them. They mean so much to him and to our family and we cannot imagine life without them.
This entire experience has taught us so much; most importantly it will constantly remind us to make sure your child knows the amazing sacrifice you made out of your love for her and the importance of keeping an open relationship with you.
Luke and Daddy Playing Baseball on the Beach
One of our fondest memories from growing up is family vacations. Terry's family loved to travel and Matt's family would always spend part of the summer at the Jersey shore. Since vacation was such an enjoyable memory for our families growing up, both of our parents decided to make investments with their grandchildren in mind.
Matt's parents now reside at the beach and it's an open invitation to the family all summer long. Our son Luke enjoys going down to Nana and Pop's beach house and his days are always filled with adventures and excursions. He not only spends time on the beach, but he also goes crabbing, plays mini-golf, goes to the play parks, and there is even a water park that has a section for toddlers. He mostly enjoys spending the weekend in the presence of his cousins.
Terry's parents invested in time shares for the family to enjoy. We are fortunate that one of the time shares is in Disney World. It's always a treat to spend a week with Mickey, Minnie and let's not forget about Donald Duck. The best part of the trip is to see all the children get excited as we enter the park. All the cousins will race from ride to ride and spend the evening debating over the best part of the day.
Terry's parents also, recently, bought a beach house in the same town as Matt's parents, so Nana and Pop's house and Grandma and Pop Pop's house will be only a short ride down the road!
| What We Like Most About Being Parents |
Enjoying a Day at the Beach
There is nothing greater as parents than the love of a child. We love to be able to see the excitement through our child's eyes. Luke is a happy, loving and adventurous four- year- old who loves to get the most out of his day. Terry has always desired to be a stay- at -home mom and due to a company merger last year, she was afforded this opportunity. Luke goes to preschool in the mornings and the rest of the day is a whirlwind of activity. From the second Luke climbs into the car at pickup, he excitedly asks "what are our plans today?", "where are we going?", or "who can I play with?" Terry and Luke fill their afternoons with neighborhood play dates, library story time, Little Gym sports class, and most recently he asked to go back to his soccer class! Luke enjoys story time at Barnes and Noble which is followed by a craft and a visit to the infamous Thomas the Tank train table. The evenings are "wind down" time. Luke loves to sit on his bed with Mommy and Daddy and read one or two of his favorite bedtime stories. Weekends are filled with family activities, whether it is a trip to the beach or an outing to one of the cousin's sporting events- one thing is for sure, it is always a blast!
We look forward to sharing these same special moments with your child. We will provide them with the same strong morals and values that were modeled to us by our parents. We believe that a strong education is of the utmost importance and we will ensure that your child has the skills necessary to be a success at whatever they want to be!
