Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Our favorite vacation was our first honeymoon. We spent 6 days at an all inclusive resort in the Riviera Maya, about an hour south of Cancun, Mexico. It was beautiful. We were able to walk on the beach, go kayaking, snorkeling around the coral reef and feed the fish.
We spent a day at an Eco Archaeological park called Xcaret. This park celebrates the Mayan culture and local wild life. We saw reenactments of games the Mayans played, enjoyed dolphins close up, walked on the bottom of the ocean, and got to pet a huge sea turtle. There was the most beautiful Catholic Church we have ever seen in the park. We hope to be able to travel back there to renew vows for our 25th Anniversary.
We loved learning about the Mayan people and visiting the ruins at Tulum and Chichen Itza. We even climbed up the pyramid. The stairs were so steep and shallow that we both scooted down them on our backsides. We were both so happy to be back on the ground, but would do it again in a heartbeat. It was amazing to see the art and culture of the people and learn how advanced they were. My favorite souvenir is our wedding date written in Mayan hieroglyphs.
We Look Forward to Cooking with Your Child
We love to cook. Ronda goes all out for holidays by making special treats that fit the occasion. This interest in cooking has been passed down to Skylar. Just recently he wanted to buy a coconut. William said he would buy one, but Skylar had to research to find out how to crack the nut and harvest the different parts, find a recipe and make something with it. He had a great time cracking the coconut with his dad and cooking some yummy coconut bars.
We can't wait to share these experiences with your child. It's a great way to bond, teach responsibility and instill healthy eating habits. Cooking also provides a great time to laugh, play, and talk with each other. We often get a warm fuzzy feeling when we look back on our childhood and cooking in the kitchen. Ronda remembers making a lot of cold toast and green eggs for her parents as she learned how to cook. They always ate everything and praised her for the yummy taste.
Fun Family Tradition: Halloween
Game Time at Our Halloween Party
Every year Skylar has a large Halloween party where everyone comes dressed up. Last year's theme was Harry Potter. We play games, eat lots of goodies, and do a craft. We prepare for these event months in advance as the whole family decides on a theme and costumes. Ronda usually sews at least 1 of the costumes. For her, the details are extremely important and a lot of fun to plan. When it comes time to decorate, half of the normal photos and decorations around the house get packed way as we bring out boxes and boxes of decorations. We have everything from spider webs and skeletons to funny tombstones and plastic snakes. The boys (Skylar and William) love to try to scare Ronda with the snakes. She hates snakes.
Skylar helps select the craft project for his friends to do and William helps to design the invitations. We find lots of great recipes that appeal to the guests but are on the healthier side. Everyone leaves happy with a large box or bag filled with goodies and toys.
