How We Met & Our Feelings for Each Other
We met when we were both working in New York City. A friend introduced us and it was practically love at first sight. We dated for one year and then married the next year. We had a beautiful wedding with lots of friends and family members. We've been happily married for 10 years.
Franklin: Alana is very creative and enjoys cooking and photography. Her love for others shows in everything she does. She is nurturing and patient with our children. She enjoys planning special activities for our family that are both fun and educational. She continues to amaze me as a wife, mother, friend and soul-mate. She is honest and genuine, and I cannot think of another person I would rather spend the rest of my life with.
Alana: Franklin is athletic and enjoys working in the yard and on our house. He is a kind, loving and playful father and husband. He also has a great sense of humor. He enjoys mountain biking and running. He loves spending time with our sons. He is a wonderful teacher, friend and father. I feel so lucky to be able to share my life and love with such a wonderful man.
Our Adoption Story
Eight years ago, after struggling with infertility, we made plans to adopt a baby. But unexpectedly, Alana became pregnant. Our son Samuel arrived just after New Years, two months early, healthy and 22 inches long! Three and a half years later, on Mother's Day, we welcomed our son Isaac ("Izzy"). We are now so excited to be "expecting" again, this time by adoption. This will be our first adoption and we plan to adopt another child in a few years as well.
Our children are also very excited about adopting a baby. They talk frequently about when our baby will arrive and what they will do together with her. They enjoy setting aside their out-grown clothes and special toys for her. We are certain that no other baby is so eagerly awaited and anticipated by her older siblings!
Our Sons Samuel and Izzy
Samuel and Izzy
Our son Samuel is 7 ½ years old. He loves building and makes all sorts of neat stuff from Lego's, erector-sets, science kits and wood, nails and glue. Samuel also enjoys running and swimming. He has run several local children's races and is very proud of his finisher's medals. Twice a week, Samuel takes swimming lessons at the local university. In the summer, he participates on a swim team and loves being able to swim several times a day at his camp and on the weekends at the beach.
Our son Izzy is 4 years old and is our family artist. He loves to paint pictures and even to paint himself. Izzy also enjoys holding parties in his room for his family and his stuffed animals. He describes himself as "medium" because he is not little anymore, but not as big as his brother. Izzy is thrilled about becoming a big brother.
Samuel and Izzy love to play together. They are also very kind and affectionate with each other. When we drop them off at their schools each morning, they hug each other goodbye. In the summers, when they attend the same camp, Samuel looks out for Izzy, carrying Izzy's backpack and his own, and telling the counselors if Izzy needs anything. Samuel and Izzy spend their afternoons together with our babysitter during the school year. Their afternoon activities together are special and include fishing, putting on shows, decorating our driveway with chalk, painting, riding bikes and playing at the playground.
