How Adoption Has Affected Our Lives

Adoption has been such a gift and a blessing to us. Both of our children are adopted, and what joy they have brought to our lives! We decided to adopt after unsuccessful infertility treatments. We both wanted to be parents, and adoption was a natural choice for us. Our daughter Maria Grace, was born in July of 2004, and recently celebrated her 4th birthday. She is a precious little girl whom we love dearly, and she can not wait to have a new baby brother or sister. She has already told us that she will help feed, change, and rock the new baby. Our son Daniel Lloyd was born in June of 2005, and has kept us busy since his arrival. He is a very social and happy little boy who enjoys everything life has to offer. Daniel has brought us so much joy, and we look forward to seeing him in the role of "big brother".

Maria and Daniel's adoption stories are very different, but both are positive. We met Maria's birthmother prior to the birth of Maria, and went to doctor visits with her. We spent time at the hospital with her when Maria was born, and we continue to send letters and photos to her. We did not meet Daniel's birth mother, but we have sent letters and photos. We would be happy to meet you, if you wish, and you will receive letters and photos, so that you can watch your child grow.

Our Decision to Adopt Children of Another Race

We made the decision to adopt bi-racial children early in our adoption journey. We had a desire to be parents, and realized that race did not matter to us. After the adoption of our daughter, we knew that we wanted to adopt another bi-racial child and we adopted our son who is also bi-racial. Our family and friends have been very supportive of our decision and have welcomed our children with open arms.

We understand that they will have questions as they grow, and will discuss the differences in race openly and honestly. We are already reinforcing how each person is God's creation, and that God made them exactly the way he wanted them. Our hope and prayer for our children is that they will be loving, compassionate, and accepting of others. We plan to raise them in such a way that they know they are loved unconditionally. We answer any questions that they have, and will explore their culture with them.

We plan to openly talk about adoption with your child. Our children know that they are adopted, and it is a natural and positive experience to them. We have created a scrapbook that includes pictures of birth parents, hospital photos, and all the details of their adoption. Both of our children love to look at their books, and it is a wonderful experience for us to talk about their story and how special they are. We have several children's books that are about adoption, and reading with them is a fun way to help them understand adoption better. We have the utmost respect and appreciation for birth parents, and you will always be talked about in a positive light. It is important to us that your child knows what an awesome sacrifice you made, and what an incredible gift we received.

Our Wonderful Pet

Bonnie

Our dog Bonnie was our first experience with adoption! We adopted her eight years ago when she was a frisky nine month old. She is a beagle mix, and we believe her pedigree is just right! She has been a wonderful dog for our family, and her disposition can only be described one way - super sweet. Everyone that meets her likes her, and has to bend down and pet her. Her big brown eyes just beg for a lovin' or all of the food off of your plate! She is wonderful with children, and both of our kids enjoy romping in the back yard with her.
