Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

We've been married for almost six years and have an incredibly easy, happy marriage. Our friends ask us, "How do you do it?" Mostly, we're extremely blessed and aren't worthy of this great gift, but there are a few secrets to our success in the special qualities we see in one another.

What we love and admire most about each other is that each of us gives not 50%, but 100%, every single day. We each put the other first, not with regret or resentment, but with joy. It has become easy to do, and it makes our lives so wonderful. We both feel that as much as each of us gives individually, we receive more from each other than we ever give.

Brian is a strong man, but has a very gentle, loving personality. Mary has a fun-loving side, but a very soft heart. Together, we want to give back for all that we've been given. We both have a strong faith in God. He's the giver of love and the source of our love for each other. We look forward to the chance one day to shower this love on a child as well.

Our Favorite Vacation Spots

We love going to fun places on vacation. One particularly special place for us is Disney World, where Mary has many special childhood memories. We can't wait to introduce the child to the wonder and excitement of Disney World and create new memories, passing on this family tradition.

We also love the National Parks, especially Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone. We went whitewater rafting and horseback riding with friends who live in the area. We also saw the Old Faithful geyser and a lot of wildlife, including buffalo, moose, and a black bear.

Another unforgettable vacation was Sydney, Australia. We climbed the Sydney Harbor Bridge, went to the famous opera house, and saw kangaroos and koala bears in the Blue Mountains. Most recently, we drove up the Maine coast and went to Prince Edward Island in Canada, a remarkably beautiful island known for its beaches, golf, and the children's book "Anne of Green Gables." We can't wait to share these special places and others with a child.

The Story of Tessa, Our Dog

With Tessa

Brian grew up with dogs, but Mary was allergic to fur and feathers, and could only have fish as a child. After allergy shots, Mary was able to live with animals, but was afraid of dogs because of a bad experience. When we got married, Brian wanted a dog. One day, Mary went to the pound "just to look" and saw Tessa, who looks like Lady from "Lady and the Tramp," gazing at her sadly through the cage. She fell in love with Tessa immediately, but a note on the cage said "Adoption in Progress" - someone else was going to get Tessa. As Mary and Tessa looked at each other, a volunteer walked by and removed the sign because the pound had rejected the applicant. Mary took Tessa on a walk and called Brian, who came in for the adoption interview. An hour later, Tessa came home. Four and a half years later, Tessa is still the "queen of the house." She is a quiet and caring presence in our home, and her playful personality makes her a favorite at the vet and any family gathering.
