Our Adoption Experiences
After years of infertility treatment and soul searching, Jay and I decided to fulfill our dream of a family through adoption. In 2004, we adopted our precious daughter Roxanne and in 2006 our little man JT. They have been a gift from God to us and our families. I'll never forget Jay's face when we received the calls that there were birthparents who wanted to meet us. Both times we were excited but anxious. I must have changed my clothes 10 times asking Jay each time…"Do I look alright? What will they think of me? Should I change my top?..." Each time Jay would say…"You look beautiful. They will love you…" The meetings were awesome - we were all scared but after some time, everyone relaxed and knew it was a good fit.
When Roxanne was born the birthparents' families watched with mixed emotions as the birthmother placed Roxanne in my arms at the hospital. Tears fell from everyone's eyes. Jay and I promised to love Roxanne unconditionally and that is exactly what we have for Roxanne - unconditional love. The best way for me to describe my feelings for Roxanne is through the song "In my Daughter's Eyes" by Martina McBride. We consistently keep in touch with the birthfather and his mother, writing letters, sending emails and pictures. They too are excited at the idea of Roxanne having another brother or sister.
With JT, we had the privilege of being with the birthmother and her mother in the delivery room. The connection the four of us felt was so deep when JT entered the world. We all looked at each other with both a smile and tears as we experienced
this miracle of life and heard his first cry. The connection continued to grow as the birthmother's family came to meet JT and us. It was truly an amazing and unforgettable time.
To be honest - we have one regret; we should have decided to adopt earlier because it has been the most rewarding and fulfilling experience we have ever had!
What We Do for Fun
Touring the Grand Canal in Venice
Rachel and I enjoy traveling and visiting new places. There always seems to be an adventure that we are excited to take a crack at. We have been to many
places over the years and try to take two vacations each year. Our favorite vacation
was when we went to St. Barths, West French Indies. We stayed in an intimate bungalow on Anse de Larient. The bungalow was quite a romantic spot, located on a private beach with calm water and amazing snorkeling. We completed our SCUBA certification in the crystal clear water of St. Barths. I am not sure how I talked Rachel into scuba diving, but it was exciting and beautiful. Rachel got a bit scared at the sight of a dozen barracudas as we swam around the reef but they just stopped and "smiled" at us as they went on their way. We have also traveled to Europe several times and have a fond memory of our 10th Anniversary in Venice, Italy - the city of love. I'll never forget Rachel's surprised face when I took her for a romantic gondola ride. This past year, Rachel surprised me with a birthday getaway to Miami's South Beach. Although we didn't see any movie stars we enjoyed many romantic moments under the moonlight. When we are not traveling to new and exciting places and really have no particular place to go, Rachel and I hop on our Harley Davidson motorcycle and roll through the hills of Northwest New Jersey.
