Our Passions
We are both very creative and artistic individuals. This is one common element that drew us together in the beginning and that we still share. Matt loves to draw. He's even designed his own cartoon character. He uses his artistic talents at work by creating custom made jewelry. He has even won awards for some of his designs. Christina enjoys everything from sculpture and pottery to painting to photography to scrapbooking; anything that lets her use her imagination. She is also responsible for decorating the jewelry store and finding creative ways to display the jewelry. Together, we designed our house. We love to be unique and original with our decor while keeping everything comfortable. We hate being at someone's house and being afraid to touch the good towels. We haven't yet planned the room for the baby but knowing us there will be a mural on the wall. Maybe cars for a boy and a princess room for a girl, or maybe a garden with animals, flowers and butterflies. Matt's other passion is cars. He is slowly restoring a Volkswagen bug and can't wait to share it with a boy or a girl! They will probably be sixteen before it's finished. Christina also loves to read. There is something magical about jumping into a good book. She can't wait to share the magic with children. We both also enjoy spending time with family, cooking, traveling, and our three cats.
Choosing Adoption
When Christina was a young girl and daydreaming with her friends she always said she wanted two children then wanted to adopt a third. Even then adoption was on her mind. She believes God was already planting that possibility in her head. Christina stated that when she met Matt, one thing stood out and that was what an amazing father he would make. She quickly saw how children love him and seem to be drawn to him. In return, in the presence of children his gentle spirit seems to take over to protect and guide them. It's hard to explain the connection he seems to have with children. Maybe it's because they share the same innocence and imagination. When it became time for us to have children we discovered two things. Matt has a rare genetic condition that prevents him from ever having a biological child and Christina has a rare genetic condition that makes it dangerous for her to carry a baby. How unlikely that two random people from different states would end up together with such rare conditions. To us it affirms the power of God. We feel very blessed that God would protect Christina's life by matching her with a man that could not get her pregnant. We want to assure you that while it's dangerous for her to carry a child it is not dangerous to care for or raise a child.
Volunteer Work
Charity Gala
Matt is a very generous person. He’s the guy that opens doors for strangers then gets stuck holding them while everyone else enters. He has left work to wash an elderly customers car and to carry someone a cake he stayed up hours to bake. It’s not just for good customer relations, he genuinely worries and cares about people. He must have learned this behavior from his parents because as a family everyone is very charitable. The store is a member of the chamber of commerce and supports many local activities. Often, we give out free watch batteries and repairs to the elderly. Also, the store contributes heavily to the jewelers charity fund which sponsors St. Jude hospital. Christina has always enjoyed helping people and participating in volunteer work. As a child vacation bible school touched her life and now she gets to share God’s love with the kids by volunteering in the crafts section. She also helps with the children’s choir. She loves every minute with the children. The church also has a program called Safe Harbor that helps parents and their teenagers. She volunteers as a teen mentor and loves every girl that she has been assigned to. The program itself has been very informative about the realities of parenthood. She says "I may be a volunteer but in the end I have received the blessing."
