Our dream is to be a family full of love, traditions, fun and happiness. We believe children should be encouraged to follow their dreams. We want to make every experience with them memorable and fun by really getting into their activities with them. We will laugh with them in the good times and support them through the hard times. The chance to be loving parents of your baby would be an incredible dream-come-true for us. With your courageous help we can create the loving family we have always dreamed of.

How Adoption Has Affected Tara Personally

Adoption has played a significant role in my (Tara) life. I was adopted by my step-father when I was 2 years old. I was told I was adopted when I was 11 and it played a big role in my life. I wanted to know who my biological father was and I wanted to know why he allowed me to be adopted. I feel that I have good insight and understanding of how an adopted child would feel as they grow up and come to learn and understand that they were adopted. I believe I would be able to help them with their feelings and questions. I have experienced something similar to what they will experience and I know that I can truly relate to them and their feelings.

Adopting Ella

We adopted our daughter Ella, who was born in Utah in August 2005. Our adoption experience has been wonderful from the moment we were told that we had been chosen to parent Ella. We are forever grateful to Ella's birth mom and regularly provide her with pictures and letters. We also stay in touch with her via email. We talk to Ella about her birth mom often using a little photo album of the days after Ella's birth. It's one of Ella's favorite bedtime "stories". Eventually, Ella will know that her birth mom made an adoption plan because she cared so much about her child. She will know what a difficult decision her birth mom made and will understand that this choice was the ultimate act of motherly love. One of Ella's favorite bedtime stories is an adoption book called "Tell Me Again about the Night I Was Born". Since Ella's adoption has always been a part of our family story, we trust she will grow up confident and comfortable with her adoption.

We have a few friends who have children that are adopted and it's a great connection to have. We think it will be really beneficial for Ella and her sister as they grow up. We all get together about twice a year and the kids play and have a great time. It allows the children to see that there are many families that have been built through adoption. It also shows the children that there are other kids whose parents don't have the same skin color as they do.

What it Means to Be Parents and Our Strengths

Getting Together with Other Adoptive Families

Parenting for us is the ultimate blessing, the most rewarding job in the world. Sharing our lives, love, traditions and passions with Ella has been incredibly fulfilling but she is now ready for a sibling and we as parents are longing for a larger family. Bill loves to learn and explore new things and to share what he learns with children. His fascination with how things work is infectious. He has a great capacity for many hours of turning over rocks on the beach to see what lives underneath them. He understands a lot about child development and has a great deal of patience and empathy for children. Tara loves her role as Ella's mother. She is very loving and nurturing; showing love comes easily to her. She is always thinking about what other people need. She is careful and makes child safety a top priority. She is very organized and loves to try new things. She loves to interact with other Moms and share stories about the children. She is also very good at asking and learning about fun activities and learning opportunities available for Moms and children.
