| Danyka-3 years old |
|
Our daughter Danyka was born Aug 21, 2006 and her adoption was finalized in March 2007 through American Adoptions. We were fortunate enough to be at the hospital during her delivery. Two hours after she was born, we were finally able to hold her. She was the most beautiful baby we ever laid our eyes upon. Danyka was so angelic, such a perfect little girl. We fell in love with her instantly. She warmed our soul. She filled this gap which had been in our hearts for so long. From that moment on, we realized every day would be filled with amazement and wonder.
Now our sweet girl is just over 3 years old and every day is an adventure and just keeps getting better. We are really enjoying parenting her and watching her develop into a person of her own. There are new words, phrases, expressions everyday along with new explorations. For example, recently we attended a friend's 1st birthday party where there was a magician present. For some strange reason, our daughter felt as if she was part of the act. She kept going on stage, and tried to be his assistant. While she would applaud him she also "hammed it up for the crowd. Whenever the audience would laugh or giggle she would shriek with excitement. There is no question she has a bubbly and outgoing personality.
Our job now is to guide her, love her and teach her values. We believe in leading by example. We want to instill in her that she can do whatever her heart desires and there are no limits as to what she can accomplish. She will be raised to have confidence and courage. We are grateful to be parents and feel blessed everyday that through adoption we were able fulfill our dreams of becoming a family.
Because of our experience with Danyka, we are so eagerly looking forward to adding to our family once again. We would be so blessed to be able to watch your child flourish and reach all these same milestones. In addition, Danyka is so excited to become a big sister. When asked if she wants a brother or sister-she replies "baby, baby". She has even started to put aside some favorite infant toys for 'baby'. We know that this is something she is very much looking forward to and would be thrilled to have a sibling to call her own.
It was an easy decision for us to pursue getting a dog. We both agreed not to go through a breeder or pet store. There are many dogs that need homes so we chose to look in shelters. It wasn't long until we discovered www.petfinder.org, which is a listing of pets in shelters countrywide.
We found a cuddle bug who we named Daisy, she is a small Cocker Spaniel. She was found walking the streets and was placed in a shelter. On the 10th day she was to be put down, however one of the workers just didn't feel right because of her sweetness. They contacted a foster home to care for her until she was adopted out. We saw her online and made an appointment to meet her. It didn't take long for her to be adopted since we fell in love immediately and took her home. She has been part of our family for almost 6 years now and puts a smile on our face everyday. We enjoy watching Daisy play with our daughter in the backyard. We are looking forward to watching her chase around our newest family member. The best thing about Daisy is that no matter how bad of day you may have had you have no choice but to smile when you walk in the door and see her standing, wagging her tail just because she is so happy to see you.
| What We'll Tell the Child About Their Adoption |
Adoption Day
We will be open and honest from day 1 regarding how we were blessed with being able to adopt such a precious child. We feel there is no reason to keep such a wonderful thing a secret. Your/our child will understand that the reason we are so lucky is because you loved and cared so much that you wanted the very best for them. We will always describe you in a positive light emphasizing your unselfish decision and willingness to afford your child all the opportunities life has to offer. Ultimately, your goal is to give your child every avenue to succeed in life. We would like to send pictures and letters to you as your/our child grows to show that the decision you made was the right one.
Currently our 2 year old daughter has correspondence with her birth mother through pictures and letters at Christmas and birthdays. Last year her birth mom sent us a DVD of current photos and events in her life. Barb sat her daughter down and went through each photo, explaining that she had been adopted and that her birth mom loves her very much. She will always grow up knowing that the decision for adoption is a positive one and that the choice for the future is in her hands. We feel it is never too early to discuss her adoption story and will always come to be appreciative of her birth mom's decision to provide her with a better life. In addition we plan on reading books to our children that highlight adoption stories.
