Enjoying San Diego
We love spending time with our families and friends for our leisure time. We enjoy having people over to our house for dinner, and fun. We play cards, watch movies, swim or just hang out and chat. Sometimes for our leisure time, we go on weekend or day trips.
We enjoy going to new places and discovering new things. One of our favorite vacations was going to California. We visited San Diego, Los Angeles, and Hollywood. We went to Universal Studios, Sea World, and Midway Museum. Our favorite part of the whole trip was taking the coastal highway and driving up the coast next to the ocean. We really did not have a set agenda for this trip and we were able to stop at different locations on the coast to walk up and down the beach.
The most frequent vacation we go on is to Branson, Missouri. As a child this is where Paula and her family went for every summer vacation. We enjoy going there for a weekend getaway to shop, see live shows, and relax. Our favorite time of year to go to Branson is Christmas time. Everything is covered in lights and the shopping is great.
One place that we look forward to taking a child to is Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida. We have both visited Disney World as children. It offers so many experiences for children and adults alike. Everything is magical and there is so much to do.
| Volunteering Our Time for Charity |
We do volunteer some of our time for charity organizations at least once a year. With John's job, we participate in a day where the employees and their families help do a project for something in the community. This is a program that is nation-wide, with all employees participating on the same day in their individual communities. We have done projects with HOPE house - a shelter for battered women and their children, which included trimming bushes, painting fences and sorting and folding clothing that had been donated. We have also painted rooms, put up sheetrock and done extensive clean-up and landscaping on properties for Hillcrest Ministries. Hillcrest Ministries is an organization that helps homeless people and families get back on their feet by providing them a place to live while they find employment and begin earning their own way again. We also both donate to the United Way every year through our paychecks and special projects that may come up through the year. We will continue to volunteer our time for charity after the adoption. We want the child to learn the gift of giving to others. As a family we will partcipate in the one day event at John's work.Other ways we can share this value of giving to others with a child is actively help out in our community with food drives, neighborhood clean ups, and so much more. There is such a tremendous feeling that a person gets when they give time to help someone else.
| How Adoption Has Affected Our Lives |
John's Dad and Nieces
John's brother and sister-in-law have adopted three girls from two different countries. The two oldest girls are biological sisters from Russia and their youngest daughter is from Guatemala. We have watched and felt their anxiety, worry and joy through the entire process. During their third adoption, there was an issue between the two governments which caused a very long delay and we feared they might not get their little girl. It was a very emotional situation and time for the entire family. When they finally brought her home, it was with a huge sigh of relief and a lot of joy. Her big sisters were very happy to see her, as well!
Our niece's will be an important part of your child's life. They will be able to share the bond of adoption with the child. The children will be able to spend time getting to know one another and growing to be great friends. Each of the children are from different cultures and it provides a uniqueness for our family and an understanding of acceptance. Our families' eyes do not distinguish skin color, we love everyone just the same.
