What It Means to Be Parents and Our Strengths

Parenthood has been an incredible part of our marriage. In spite of the many years of successes and failures at pregnancy, it is the joy that our child has brought to our lives that remains. It has been so much fun to see the world through a child's eyes and experience the thrills that come with each new achievement. While the rewards are great, we also understand the immense commitment and responsibility that comes with raising a child.

As parents, we are committed to providing your child with a loving, value-based family environment in which to grow. In addition to a top quality education and opportunities to participate in a wide variety of activities, your child will also know that he/she is loved and welcomed as a member of our church and is a special member of God's family. Your child will grow up knowing that they are cared for and can openly talk about any issues that they may be faced with. We are loving, fun, patient parents to our son. We also know that one of our greatest strengths in parenthood lies in our relationship to each other, and how we support each other's decisions. All of our parenting decisions will be based in our love for your child, and in our desire for them to have the best future imaginable.

Our Son Matthew

We have one child - a son named Matthew who is five years old and very excited about becoming a big brother. On numerous occasions, he has asked when he was going to have a brother or sister like many of his friends. Like many five-year olds, he was full of questions when we explained that we would be adopting a child, and he would have his chance to be a big brother soon. His only concern was whether we would make him change the dirty diapers!

Matthew has such a kind heart and goes out of his way to include his friends' younger siblings when they are playing. He loves to play soccer, basketball, and football, and he is also learning to play the piano. We recently purchased the video game Guitar Hero for the Wii. While Matthew enjoys the guitar and drums that come with the game, each time we play includes at least one rendition of Living on a Prayer with Matthew singing lead vocals like Jon Bon Jovi! He loves spending time with his Grammy (Dan's mom) and his PapPap (Dawn's dad), playing board games, and reading books. He is so excited to meet your child and make them a part of our family.

Our Favorite Vacation Spot

At Disney World

Traveling together as a family is one of our favorite activities. It provides us a chance to play and relax together without the craziness that comes with daily life. Our vacations have involved a mix of activities that range from relaxing on the beach, hiking mountains, visiting foreign destinations, to just hanging out at the hotel pool.

While we have traveled to many places together, our favorite vacation spot is Florida. We visit the Sunshine State nearly every other year and have a wonderful time each time we visit. It's a place we know well, so we can just relax while we're there! We spend a significant amount of time playing in the ocean, building sandcastles, boogie-boarding on the waves, and tossing the Frisbee/football on the beach. One of our favorite trips to Florida was the first time we took our son to Disney World. There's nothing like seeing Mickey Mouse through the eyes of a child! We also try to do at least one new activity each year we visit. During our latest vacation, we rented kayaks and were able to pet a manatee that was swimming in the local lagoon.
