What We Like to Do for Fun
Roy's Photo of a Butterfly

We love to spend our free time having fun! As very active people, we really enjoy long bike rides at the neighborhood trail, playing tennis, going to the zoo, and bowling in our Sunday night mixed league. As long as its an activity we can do together, we enjoy it because above all else we like to spend time with each other.

On the Tennis Court

Apart from one another, Roy is a photography enthusiast. For his 7th birthday he received a brand new Kodak camera. He ran around the house and took pictures of every one and every thing. As he got older and his interest in photography grew, and he decided to take correspondence classes through the New York Institute of Photography. He now owns three cameras and all of the lighting gear for a home-based photography studio. He loves to take portraits for family members. He also enjoys nature photography. Several of Roy's pictures have won ribbons in photography contests at the local fair. When he is not taking pictures, he likes to play the guitar and fish at the local lake.

Kathy loves playing with the family dog Boots, and even taught him to play soccer. Boots is a 9 year old, black cocker spaniel. When he was a pup, Kathy and her nephews were out playing soccer and he jumped in and stole the ball. Whenever her and her nephews would try to play a game, he would chase down the ball. Finally Kathy rolled the ball to see what Boots would do and he started pushing it with his nose! Afterwards, he got his own ball and goes nuts every time she takes him out in the yard to play. She also enjoys riding the 4-wheeler, shooting hoops, and going shopping with her friends.

What it Means to be Parents and What Our Strengths Would Be

For us, being parents means always providing a warm and supportive place to call home for the child. It means providing the child with a source of unconditional love and support. We believe it is a parent's responsibility to raise children with a strong value system and appreciation for others. Our church is a close-knit family, and they have many wonderful children's programs available. The church has a Royal Rangers program for boys K-12. It teaches leadership skills through camping and community involvement. The girls can participate in the M-Pact National Girls Club where they can do arts & crafts, learn Bible lessons, and participate in fun adventures. During church services, children kindergarten and older attend X-Treme Kids where they have live worship, games, food, and lots of fun. Younger children below kindergarten age have an X-Plorers program that allows them to learn through activities, role playing, object lessons, games and making lots of noise. We will also give him/her the best education available and the opportunity to pursue higher education. As the child matures, he/she will be curious to learn new skills. We pledge to give our support and encouragement in the discovery of their own unique likes and dislikes. We want to be his/her biggest fan as they play little league baseball or learn to play an instrument. When the child cries in the middle of the night we want to be there and be his/her comforter when sick. Above all, we want the child to experience the happiness we both knew when we were children ourselves.

Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Roller Coaster at Disney's Animal Kingdom

A couple year's ago we visited Disney World in Orlando, Florida. We stayed for a week at the fabulous Coronado Springs resort. It is part of the Disney World complex and our package included admission to all four of the Disney theme parks and a water park.

Our favorite park was Magic Kingdom. We really enjoyed all the little shops they had to offer. We had fun watching the parade, sampling the food, and riding all the rides. The characters in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride were excellent and nicely detailed. We visited during October and the theme of The Haunted Mansion ride fit perfectly into the Halloween season. It became our favorite ride while at the park.

Epcot Center

We also had time to visit Universal Studios. There are some truly awesome rides there! The Incredible Hulk and Fire & Ice are two of the best roller coasters we've found. After dark, they had a Halloween festival with eight haunted houses. We stayed and saw as many as we could before the park closed.

Disney is so big we didn't get to see it all. We would love to go back and spend more time exploring all the local attractions. The last time we were there we stopped at Daytona Beach for the day. The next time we go back we would like to stop at the beach again and learn to parasail! We would also like to go to the NASA Space Center and take a tour of the interactive exhibits.

On the way home we stopped in Savannah, Georgia to go on a ghost walk. Our guide took us through many old buildings in downtown Savannah and told us about the haunted history. He mentioned TAPS, a professional ghost hunting group, had investigated and found evidence of haunting in several buildings. Overall, it was a thrilling Halloween vacation.
