Our Connection with Adoption

Chrissie's family is full of members who are personally touched by successful stories of adoption. Her Aunt Charlotte adopted two children, Stephanie and Caroline. Stephanie is now in college and Caroline is in high school. Chrissie was their nanny for one summer during graduate school. She also has two other first cousins, Justin and Sarah, who were adopted into her family by her Uncle Bill. Chrissie's Aunt Nancy, an aunt through marriage, was adopted. Her other aunt through marriage, Connie, has a sister who is of Native American heritage who was adopted into her family. Her godmother and aunt, Colleen, placed a child for adoption during her teen years. Her birth daughter, Danielle, was raised knowing that she was adopted and later in life, Chrissie's family was able to reconnect with her. In fact, she has become one of Chrissie's closest friends and was a member of our wedding party. Chrissie has met Danielle's parents and Chrissie's family respects and loves them so much for providing Danielle with the home she needed so that she could grow into the wonderful, special adult she is today.

Qualities that We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

Chrissie and Ryan Dancing

Chrissie loves that Ryan is silly and adventurous; he likes to pretend that he could be a secret agent. Ryan is spontaneous; he will ask Chrissie to dance on a beach at sunset, just because the mood takes him. He loves to laugh and make Chrissie laugh, too. He makes up words and tries to convince her that he has his own language that has a complex grammar and pronunciation. He is caring and considerate and will do anything in his power to keep those he loves happy. When he knows I have had a particularly hard day or week, he will surprise me with flowers, a special dessert or a backrub. Ryan has a tremendous ability to love and to communicate his love to me. He will talk for hours about any subject and is incredibly intelligent and thoughtful about all different kinds of topics. He is passionate about his music, his cooking, his favorite wines, traveling, the Red Sox, history, but most of all, his family. I respect his ability to take his time to think a situation out clearly before he acts. He is the most patient and endearing man I have ever met and I thank God everyday that he is part of my life.

I think the world of my wife. She has an amazing ability to make any young child or baby jump into her arms without ever trying to coax them. She is a virtual baby magnet and that makes me feel good to see how much Chrissie is able to give and share love. Chrissie is a very passionate musician who shares her abilities with her students. I respect her ability to share her knowledge and passion of music with those who either have very little understanding or those seeking to gain deeper knowledge. Her teaching and working with other students has rubbed off on me so that I give more because of her. I love how she will have moments of being completely silly and want to dance for no reason at all or completely plan out a trip with every stop figured out before I even ask where she wants to go. Most of all, I am taken aback every day that I am given time with her. She is the love of my life and truly my other half.

Our Pets Are Important in Our Lives

Our Dogs

We have three incredibly different dogs: Reilly (Golden Retriever/Chow Mix), Jamey (Hound Mix) and Sydney (Black Lab/Terrier Mix). All three dogs were rescue dogs- Jamey and Reilly were from the local animal shelter and we adopted them about three years ago on St. Patrick's Day. Sydney was found wandering the streets in the neighborhood where Ryan was teaching by a local police officer. The police officer asked Ryan if he would take her home; she didn't think Sydney would stand a chance if she went to the animal shelter. Sydney then jumped into Ryan's arms and officially adopted him on the spot! The dogs are fun, silly, sweet, and loving. They remind us to approach life with a sense of joy and acceptance. Our dogs love to play games with us like tag and "King of the Mountain". They love to take us for walks, or go on a daytrip to the river and all three dogs love to play with kids. Their absolute favorite time with Mom and Dad is when they all lay together on the couch or on the floor and cuddle after a long hard day of being dogs. When either of us is feeling down, licks and kisses quickly ensue. Our dogs live and love life unconditionally and help us remember to live in the moment and keep things simple.
