Volunteering Our Time

Striking a Pose with the Church Kids
Our church is a big part of our lives and this is where we like to invest our time. We play very active roles in our children's ministry and the development of the children's program. We have both been kid's leaders for over 6 years. We oversee our kids community from babies through the 5th grade at our NW campus. Justin has an active role in teaching K5-5th grade every Sunday. This is a time where he goes into character teaching a bible story, helping them learn the virtue for the month, singing and having fun in their small groups. The kids absolutely love Mr. Justin! Tonya is the organized one who makes sure all the teachers have everything they need each week in order to teach their classes. Our first priority is safety and Tonya makes sure that there is a safe environment for the children. Because we love kids, it is a privilege to be able to spend quality time teaching them about God's love and how to live an abundant life. It is so much more rewarding to give than to receive. We love giving our time to families and children. It is who we are and what makes us tick. Twice a year we put on a production called "Fusion." It's a time where families and their kids can come together, learn about God and have fun doing it! We love being able to act like kids, singing and dancing with them. We also have movie nights so the parents can drop off their kids and go have a date night. Once a year church wide we have party in the parking lot. It's where we bring church outside and we have music, games for the kids, food, cotton candy and lots of bounce houses. Its loads of fun and the kids love it. Tonya has the awesome opportunity to be able to go to camp with the kids each year and be their camp counselor. Who says you're too old to go to camp? Tonya loves it and enjoys spending time with the girls in her cabin. It's a week away from home to meet new friends, enjoy fun activities and learn about God in the coolest way. We may be volunteers but in the end it is us who receive the blessing and we couldn't imagine not volunteering our time to others.



What We Do For Fun

Weekend at the Lodge with the Girls

Tonya enjoys cooking and trying new recipes but her specialty is baking. Tonya makes the best homemade cookies. We love taking a batch of cookies out of the oven sitting down with a glass of milk and dunking them while watching a classic movie. At the holidays Justin's favorite is Tonya's pumpkin cheesecake. He takes it to his company party every year and every year all the ladies want the recipe. Other hobbies include scrap booking and creating greeting cards, decorating, swimming, shopping or just relaxing at home with a good book.

Justin loves collecting old movies, movie posters, watching sports and going fishing. Not just any old movies we're talking the classic ones with Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, and Edward G. Robinson just to name a few. He enjoys all sports but baseball is his favorite to watch and play. When we go to the lodge he always makes sure to bring his fishing rod so he can just sit back, relax and cast his line. He also enjoys going to flea markets on the weekends and working in the yard.

Together we love going to concerts, cruising in the convertible, dining with friends, spending time with family and watching Yankees baseball. Basically we love being with each other! In the springtime and fall we spend time at the Lodge which is eastern North Carolina and is situated in the middle of lots of rolling hills. We love going to the Lodge where it is full of nature and lots of peace and quiet. We love to go fishing, ride the trails and look for turkeys and deer. In the summer it's off to the lake house where we take boat rides, do lots of swimming and get a lot of sunshine!



Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

Tonya about Justin:

When I married Justin I thought I was the luckiest girl in the world and after 15 years of marriage I still feel the same way. He is the love of my life and my best friend. I can count on him to make me laugh when times are stressful and to cheer me on when I want to give up. Justin truly is that guy everyone loves. He values his faith, his family and his friends. He would do anything to help a family member or a friend if needed. He has a fun-loving personality and is kind at heart. He is easy going and you can't help feeling comfortable around him. He is very down to earth and always looks at things in a positive way. Whether dressing up for kids at church or just hanging out with family and friends, children gravitate towards him. He loves being with kids and teaching them new things and manages to make it fun for everyone. I am truly blessed to have such a man in my life and know that he will be the most amazing dad.

Justin about Tonya:

I don�t know where to start when talking about Tonya, there are just so many wonderful things about her. She is a kind and loving person who puts the needs of others before her. She is a dedicated friend to all those that she comes in contact with and is the love of my life. She exhibits strength in all that she does and rarely comes across a task or situation that she cannot handle. She is so good at making our house and yard look beautiful and I appreciate her so much. I know without a shadow of a doubt that she will make the most fabulous mother because I see how great she is with our nieces and nephews. Family is of utmost importance to her and she will instill all the values that her parents taught her in our child. She is thoughtful and compassionate and always willing to help. She has an amazing heart for everyone around her and loves to share love with kids. Children have always had a special place in Tonya's heart. She is a beautiful person and the joy of my life.
