How Adoption Has Affected Us

Family Time at Easter

Adoption affected us personally about eighteen years ago when John's cousins successfully completed their adoption journey. They decided to adopt because they were having difficulty conceiving a child of their own and had lots of love to give in support of a family. Chad is currently 18 years old and will be graduating high school this year with plans for further education. He has been a wonderful addition to the family. John's cousin and his family are a joy to be around and the love, strength and bond they have formed as a family has left a positive impression on our lives.

We have been blessed to have one biological child through fertility assistance. Our doctors have confirmed that our chance of having a child without fertility treatments is very low. As a couple, we have chosen to center our attention on continuing to build our family through adoption. Our family is blessed with love and the support of extended family members that will be shared with your child. Since we have also shared in the joys of our cousin's adoption, it felt natural for us to also move forward with adoption. We both want to be parents and are excited about an opportunity to raise another child.

Our Pet

Jake and Maggie Enjoying a Lazy Saturday Morning

We both believe in the importance of having a family dog. Both of us grew up with dogs and have come to have a great love and compassion for animals. We believe dogs offer the entire family a companionship and playful spirit that brings everyone closer together. It is because of this love for dogs, our current family includes Maggie, who is a shih-tzu, terrier mix. Maggie is a wonderful dog and we couldn't have asked for a better pet to share with our family.

Maggie joined our family in June of 2008 at the age of 2 1/2. She came to us from the Wisconsin Humane Society after being picked up as a stray dog in the state of Kentucky. Although small in stature, Maggie has a big heart and an eagerness to play. She is loved by all family members and enjoys fetching the ball, playing tug and running around in the backyard. She is very gentle with our son and he just adores her. Every morning he asks "Where is shaggy Maggie?" We frequently catch them lying next to each other on the couch watching TV or reading a book. Since other family members and neighbors have dogs, we like to include Maggie in a lot of our family activities including going for walks, going to the park or running errands to the store.

Our Favorite Vacation Spot

Our Vacation Home

Our favorite place to go as a family is only 2 hours away from our home. It is the family vacation home on 40 acres of land that just surrounds you with nature. Our parents built a 1500 square foot home on the property a few years ago to provide a getaway for the entire family and we utilize the home to its fullest extent possible.

Having Fun Rollerblading

The property is extremely beautiful, very quiet and offers everything in nature that one could possibly want. It contains multiple types of pines, oak, maple and birch trees throughout the land. The property is home to deer, turkey and raccoon and one time our neighbor even saw a bear walking down the street.

We spend a lot of time as a family walking around the trails on the land, swimming in nearby lakes and roasting marshmallows at night in the fire pit. Even though it is remote, it is approximately 15 minutes from restaurants and water parks that keep all of us busy whenever we visit.

As a family, we try to spend as many weekends there as possible and always enjoy taking time off in the summer to spend some vacation time there. Through our many visits, we have created many special memories at our favorite vacation place and look forward to all of the other special visits to come.
