Our Lifestyle

Enjoying the Great Outdoors
We enjoy the simple pleasures in life like a home-cooked meal, planting new flowers in our back yard, and playing with our children. Frida is a stay-at-home mom, and Hakan enjoys flexible work hours and often works from home. We are able to spend a lot of time together as a family. On the weekends we like to go hiking in the nearby mountains, make trips to the zoo and parks, or spend time with our friends and their families. We have spent most of our summer vacations in Europe or hiking in national parks. We think it is important that we both also get some time for ourselves to pursue our hobbies. Hakan likes to do woodworking projects. He built our bed, a chair, and the sunroof over our patio. He is also interested in photography. Frida likes to do yoga, read, and make quilts.

Our Adoption Story

In Our Front Yard

We adopted Simon when he was four days old. We had a chance to meet his birthmom a couple of days later. We spent a few hours together talking, taking lots of pictures and getting to know each other. We also got to meet his birth grandmother and we still keep in touch with her through occasional E-mails.

We adopted Sebastian when Simon was two years old. We talked to Sebastian's birthmother a couple of times on the phone before he was born. We also had a chance to meet both his birthparents and some family members at the hospital when he was born. At first, Sebastian's birth grandmother was against his birthparent's decision of adoption, but we still got along great and she said that she felt better about their decision after meeting us.

Simon loves to read his adoption scrapbook with pictures of his birthmom, the hospital where he was born, him as a baby etc. At first he did not quite believe in his adoption story and then he thought that all children were adopted, but now it seems like he starting to grasp the concept. Sebastian is too young to understand his story, but he likes to look at the pictures.

We send Simon's birthmom and Sebastian's birthparents letters with pictures twice a year. We tell them about a regular day in our lives, about the children's development, likes and dislikes, and we try to describe their personalities. We enjoy writing these letters and we hope that their birthparents enjoy reading them as much as we do. We are so blessed to have these two boys in our lives and we owe that to their wonderful and selfless birth mothers. We are so excited at the idea of adopting again.

Our Dog, Morris

Frida and Morris
We have a dog named Morris. We adopted him from the humane society last year. Morris loves to fetch tennis balls and to play with his furry friends in the nearby dog park. Like most Golden Retrievers, Morris is great with children, and he loves to play with Simon and Sebastian (and eat any of their leftover food). We take Morris to the park twice a day - it is good exercise for both him and us. We have gotten to know a lot of different people in the neighborhood thanks to these daily walks.
