| How Adoption Has Affected Our Lives |
After struggling through a few years of infertility and undergoing many treatments resulting in heartache each time, we decided someone much greater than us had a different plan for our family. We both knew that we wanted children, no matter what. That being said, we made the decision to pursue adoption and went full speed ahead into the process.
We waited for our son for approximately 11 months that seemed like 11 years! However, we will never forget the moment we finally received THE call. Our agency was calling to tell us we had been matched with a very strong birthmother and her son was due in only 2 weeks. We had the opportunity to speak with her on the phone before he was born and then spent a lot of time together in the hospital. We truly feel that having that time together was very important both for her to know that her
son was going to a loving home and for us to know her well so we could tell Chance about his birth mom and adoption story. We chose to give him the name "Chance" as we both loved the name and knew he was our "chance" to build our family.
Two years later, our lives couldn't be happier and we don't go a day without feeling like the luckiest people in the world to have received such a huge blessing. We are looking forward to having another blessing in our lives soon, which will complete our family. Even Chance knows we're ready, if we ask if he wants a baby brother or sister he always responds "uh huh"! Needless to say, our priority in life is each other and our son and the only thing that will change is hopefully the addition of one more priority in our life - your child.
We were both raised in the Catholic faith and remain strong Catholics today. Our faith grew stronger as we faced infertility and put our trust in God that someday our dream of being parents would be filled. He filled that dream and we are eternally grateful for the blessings he has granted us, especially each other and our son. We attend a church about 5 minutes away and we take great pride in being members of this Catholic community. When waiting for Chance, Debbie made a promise to God while praying one night, she promised that if he would give us a baby we would raise that baby to love and worship him each day and we would take to him to church with us each weekend if at all humanly possible. We both know this promise is one we will not break with any children we're blessed with. It is very important to both of us to raise our children in the Catholic faith and instill the same morals and beliefs we were raised with. We know someday our children may choose other lifestyles or a different religion than us and that is, of course, their choice. However, we feel it is our responsibility to make sure they know all about the Catholic faith and feel that if a family truly goes through life together celebrating their religion that religion sticks with the children throughout their life as well.
Chance Playing in the Yard
Words cannot describe how much energy and love for life this little man has! He is 100% boy, full speed ahead at all times. He can make you smile in a second with just a little flash of those pearly whites or a bob of the head while dancing to the oldies. Chance loves to make you laugh and is quite the cuddler. We cannot wait to see him with a new baby in the house. We know that he will love his baby brother or sister and will protect them as they go through life. We're sure he'll teach him the ways of the world - both the good and the bad! We're choosing to adopt again while he's so young so that the two of them can grow up the best of friends and always have a confidant in life. We know as our children grow they will have questions about their life story and we take great reassurance that they will have each other to go through those questions together. |
