Jacque and Cathy at the 2008 5k
For leisure, we enjoy many things together. We both like walking the dog, going to the movies, and reading books (both fiction and nonfiction). We are also big fans of the TV show Lost. Jacque spends her free time working on her garden, which is really her hobby, though Omar sometimes digs a hole or two for her! Omar enjoys playing card and strategy-intensive board games. He also sponsors the gaming club at his college. Both of us like to exercise and recognize that it is an important part of the health of every individual. It is also a great, natural way to relieve stress. We hope to encourage our children to find a form of exercise they will enjoy, as it will provide them with numerous, lifelong health benefits. For us, Omar likes to work out with free weights in the basement, and he normally does so five days a week. Jacque prefers running on the college track, which is within walking distance of our home. This also helps her to prepare for the 5k she and her sister participate in every year.

| Education Is Important In Our Lives |
We come from families that have a strong belief in education. Both Omar's dad and his sister are teachers, as is he. We firmly believe that going to college is a must for any child to ensure they get a good start in life, and we plan to instill that belief in our children. When Omar was an undergrad, he got a chance to study abroad in France for one summer (8 weeks). Omar remembers that summer fondly and hopes to be able to provide his own children with such opportunities.
Because Omar has a full-time teaching job at a community college, anyone in his immediate family can take any class they want to for FREE. This will allow our children to complete a two-year college degree before moving on to a four-year school. We will then pay for our child's tuition during those last two years of college. Omar's own father did this for him with the requirement that he must pass his classes with a B average. He has always been grateful for that opportunity, and we will probably consider a similar "motivating" strategy for our own children.
Harry Sleeping in Our Dresser Drawer
We love animals! When we met, Omar had one big cat named Logan, and Jacque had two small cats: a Siamese named Sam, and a Russian-blue named Harry. Since then, we've adopted a lap-dog (Elvis) and after Sam died (at 19) we took in another cat - Bella, who started off as a stray we were feeding in Jacque's garden, but eventually became part of the family. We feel that pets (and a garden) make a house feel more like a home because it is filled with life indoors and out. It is hard for us to imagine childhood without pets, and we are glad we can provide that type of companionship for our child.
Such a Good Dog!
