| What It Means To Be Parents and Education |
Easter 2009
Being parents is probably the greatest joy we have ever experienced. There is never a dull moment at our house!!! As a stay-at-home mom, Lara works hard with Adrienne to supplement the education that she gets at preschool. We don't believe that the burden of an education should be placed on teachers, but on the parents. Probably our favorite part of being parents is just sharing all of life's adventures with a child, whether it be big or small. We love to watch her face as we introduce her to new places and new things. Children get so excited over such little things, and they also put things in prospective when life's burdens start to wear us down.
Our children will attend preschool beginning at age 3 (Adrienne just completed her 1st year). Then, they will attend the same public school that Lara graduated from. It is a small high school where the students get a lot of one-on-one attention from the teachers. A college fund will be started by the time the child is 2 years old. We both feel that college is very important, and we want to be able to provide this for them, so that they are not burdened with student loans as they start their lives as young adults.

I'm not sure if either of these would be our favorite, but it is the vacation spots that we frequent the most. We are very lucky that we are only 6 hours from either the beach or the mountains, so we go to both!!! We love to go to the beach and build sandcastles, play in the water, and just relax. When we go to the mountains, there are many activities to do, beautiful sights to see, and great food to eat. Next year (2010), we are looking forward to going to Disney World.

We believe that everyone is created equal, regardless of race, background, financial status, etc. God created all of us in His likeness. As the child gets older, we will tell him/her about their background, and help them to understand their background. We will find age appropriate activities in our community that explore cultural differences, and participate in these as a family. We have already purchased a couple of books, such as "Nadia's Hands" that cherish maintaining cultural traditions in your family, and infusing his/her cultural traditions into part of our family's traditions. We are honored and excited to extend our family with this child that we are blessed to adopt. The fact that this child is adopted is not something that we would ever try to keep from him/her or hide from them. Everyone should be proud of where they came from, and embrace it. |
