Cultural Diversity in Our Lives

Our Diverse Family
This is something that we feel is very important to any family, all the more so when you have a family of many different cultural backgrounds. We think that it is important to teach children that families come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. A perfect example of that is Kate's family. She has three younger siblings that are more than a decade younger than her and her family includes both a step parent adoption and family members of different races. Any child in our family regardless of their race will have a black grandmother and mixed race aunt. We realize that even though we do have family members that are African American we will need to make sure to nurture and grow a healthy racial identity in your child. We are looking forward to this process. We live in a very diverse community with people from all over the world and plan to raise your child in an environment that respects and honors others cultural backgrounds as well as their own. We know that there will be questions about the difference in races in our family but we are used to these kinds of questions and will not allow people's ignorance to define our family. We will raise your child to be proud of all of the parts of his/her heritage and his/her unique and loving family.

Our Lifestyle

Our St. Louis Trip to the Arch
We live a very kid friendly lifestyle. We love going to baseball games, events in the park, and silly movies. We actually like to joke that we are already living like we have kids because all the stuff we like to do is kid stuff. We are pretty laid back people and although we enjoy going out and having fun, our spot to be is at our home. We like spending quality time with each other and playing around with our two dogs. We like to trek around our neighborhood with them in tow visiting with the neighbors we pass and enjoying the beautiful view at our neighborhood park. In the evening it seems like our whole neighborhood comes out to walk and we always have a good time saying hello and letting the neighborhood kids play with our dogs. We are the kind of people that have a good time anywhere we go and we are looking forward to sharing our family friendly lifestyle with a child.

Discussing Adoption

We plan on talking openly with age appropriate discretion about adoption from the very beginning. We feel that the more he/she understands about adoption the more they will understand the love that they have from all of their parents. We will tell him/her about the wonderful and courageous woman who gave birth to them and made the decision out of the deepest kind of love to make an adoption plan for them. We will tell him/her that they are lucky to have not only one set of parents that love them but two. We will make sure that your child recognizes the importance that you will always have in their life and their history. We will share with them their adoption scrapbook and information as they grow and we will support them in their quest for personal identity and recognize your importance in that identity. We want to make sure that your child understands and respects all the parts of their history and what makes them the unique gem that they are.
