Fireworks on July Fourth
We both have a number of family traditions that we cannot wait to share with your child. Tom's family is small and tight knit. But what they lack in size, they make up for in volume (noise that is). Traditional celebrations include a yearly family clambake. Tom also spent birthdays and most holidays with his extended family as well. Many people and lots of laughter make for interesting and fun celebrations. Cindy's family is very large and just as interesting. They would go to a different family member's house for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve, Fourth of July and Easter and had family birthday parties for all of the cousins. The TV was always tuned to the football game of the day. Cindy was raised a Florida Gator and her family never misses a football game.
Go Gators! Tailgating Before the Big Game
Together, we go to Eureka Springs every year on a fall foliage road trip to see the changing leaves. It is a quiet weekend with lots of rest and relaxation for us and our dogs. We also have started an annual Christmas open house to celebrate the holiday season with our neighbors and friends. Tom has been converted to a Florida Gator by marriage, and now enjoys the football games with Cindy every weekend in the fall. We watch them with the other Gator families in the KC Gator club every free weekend we get.
Spending Time with Friends
We both like to read. We read to each other almost every night. Drama/fiction, biographical and comedy writers are our favorites. Tom plays guitar as often as he can. He has "jam sessions" with other guitar players once in a while as well. Cindy likes to exercise and we both like to go on bike rides. In the summer, we have cook-outs with our friends. We even witnessed another couple we know get engaged at one this summer! We try to go on weekend getaway trips whenever possible, including our fall foliage trip every year to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. On weekends, we also like to attend events around town. Depending on the time of year, there is always a festival, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, or museum exhibit to visit in KC.
Day Trip to Philadelphia
With Curly and Kyra
Our pets are an important part of our lives for a variety of reasons. Our first dog, Curly, was adopted when Tom was a resident and Cindy was not yet working. He kept her company during the days and nights when Tom was working long hours at the hospital. Our second dog Kyra was adopted in the fall the year after Curly. We saw her picture online for the Oklahoma Airedale Rescue and could not resist. Curly needed a playmate and she looked like the perfect fit. She is full of energy, and a little more boisterous than Curly, but is as gentle as they come and gets along great with kids. Curly and Kyra take turns chasing each other around the house and yard. They have both become a part of our family and we cannot imagine life without them. |
