Jeff & Stacy

If it weren't for adoption, we would not be parents so adoption is near and dear to our hearts. We frequently talk about Matthew's adoption story and enjoy celebrating his Adoption Day each September. We are a fun-loving, supportive and nurturing family, and believe in unconditional love with lots of hugs and kisses. We have plenty of love and laughter to share and are excited to adopt again.

Our Most Treasured Memory

Always Ready for a Fun Time

The day we became parents was a dream come true for us. We remember nearly every detail of the day Matthew was born and can still remember that feeling of nervous excitement. We felt very lucky to have the opportunity to meet Matthew's birthmom, Becky, and to learn some special things about her, her hobbies and her favorite things. We were worried the situation would be awkward, but our fears were quickly put to rest as we immediately became comfortable with each other. When we held Matthew for the first time and he stared up at our faces with wide eyes, we knew we were holding a miracle. The first thing Becky said to us after Matthew was born was, "Congratulations! You have a son!" This brave woman had just given us the most precious gift imaginable and our hearts were bursting with emotion. Becky then asked us what his name was and we told her we were thinking of the name Matthew. She said she liked the name Dawson so Jeff suggested we name him Matthew Dawson. Matthew loves hearing his adoption story and especially the part about how all three of us named him.

A Day of Squeals and Giggles

Our Family Traditions

Cali Loves Opening Presents

We love traditions. On birthdays, we like to give the birthday girl or boy clues to send them on a hunt all over the house to find a pile of presents. We have lots of laughs as the birthday person tries to decipher some crazy message on a slip of paper and has to search in places like the refrigerator, bathtub or under a bed! Every year we decorate Easter eggs, have special outings for Mother's Day, Father's Day and Adoption Day, watch Fourth of July fireworks, have summer campfires with hotdogs and s'mores, go to a nearby pumpkin patch, carve scary and silly pumpkins, build a Lego tunnel for our Christmas train, decorate Christmas cookies and take evening drives to see Christmas lights. On our Christmas light drives, we take a vote on which house has the best decorations and declare that house the "Award Winning" house for the night. For Father's Day, Mother's Day and Adoption Day, the person of honor gets to choose a special family outing for their special day. For our last round of special days, Stacy chose an indoor water park, Jeff chose go-karting and laser tag and Matthew chose an open gym night at a gymnastics place and invited a friend to join us. We have traditions with our dog, Cali, too. She receives birthday and Christmas presents and is an expert at unwrapping them. When she is done, boxes are shredded and the wrapping paper is no bigger than a square inch! We also have a special Easter egg hunt with plastic eggs filled with dog treats for her. She can find them no matter where we hide them, even in bushes or in a gutter spout. Because she loves it so much, we often wrap up toys or hide eggs when it isn't even a special occasion.

Our Personalities

An Awesome Slide at Our Fall Festival

Jeff is funny, generous, easygoing, creative and adventurous. He enjoys hiking, watching NASCAR racing, drawing and building with Legos. He is a kid at heart and you will often find him playing on the floor with Matthew and his friends. The kids often invite him to play because he is so much fun. He is especially good at being the announcer for their pretend car races and monster truck shows. Jeff is the problem solver in our family and can fix just about anything. This has come in handy on many of our home remodeling projects.

Making Friends

Stacy is playful, soft-hearted, imaginative, energetic and loves animals. She enjoys hiking, reading, training dogs, playing board games and working puzzles. She is the planner in the family and usually organizes our fun activities and get-togethers. She likes to create special activities for Matthew and his friends to do, such as scavenger hunts, indoor campouts and mysteries to solve. Stacy loves children. Whenever we are with a group of people, she can usually be found wherever the kids are.

Matthew is happy, silly, inquisitive, outspoken and active. He enjoys just about everything. He truly has a zest for life, loves playing sports and learning details about how things work. He has an abundance of energy and we joke that he is really 3 children packaged in 1 body. Ever since Matthew could talk, he has asked for a brother or sister. He is excited we are adopting and can't wait to be the helpful big brother.
