Having a child would be a dream come true for us. We really want to be parents and feel we would have so much to share with a child; our love, our time, our interest and joy in the world around us, as well as being able to provide for a child financially. We want to assure you that we will give your child unconditional love, support and encouragement as he or she grows, learns, and becomes the best that they can be.

| How Adoption Has Affected Us |
Enjoying a Hot Air Balloon Ride
When we found out that we couldn't have a child, we had no hesitation in deciding to build our family through adoption. Adoption has always been a part of our lives. Terrie's best friend growing up was adopted. Terrie's Great Grandfather was adopted. Terrie has an adopted Hispanic cousin and two that are part Native American. She also participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters Events for many years supporting foster children. Steve's brother's family worked with a teenager in the foster care system, and he has just successfully entered his freshman year of college to study engineering!
We both also have many more friends who are adopted or who have adopted children. Thus, we can assure you that our families and friends will openly accept and help us to support your child as they grow into adulthood. We are all very excited about this opportunity to parent a child.
It is very important in the world for everyone to both know their own identity, and learn of and respect the culture of themselves and others. Since Terrie is a faculty member of a large university, there will be many people of diverse backgrounds that your child will meet and interact with regularly. For example, for the past three years Terrie has been the Lead Coordinator of a program designed to offer research opportunities to minority students. Additionally, she has worked with students who have grown up in a variety of countries including Kenya, Israel, India, Taiwan and Russia. We often have the students over to our home that she works with at school and get a chance to learn about their cultures. We know there is racism out there, and that we need to talk about it with the child while they are very young and continue these conversations regularly. Children of all races need to be introduced to different cultural events and make friends from many backgrounds. Reading together from a wide variety of books, and having family time with toys and games from many cultures, is educational for all and will be encouraged. We will help your child know their background, as well as be a well-informed citizen by having a diverse group of friends and activities. We will nurture a caring environment where your child is encouraged to ask questions about who they are and how they feel. We will encourage a wide variety of activities that will give first hand experience at making friends from a wide circle.
Decorating an Easter Tree and Baking Cookies are Some of Our Favorite Traditions
Our favorite memories from childhood come from the traditions we grew up with and we plan to have many in our family. Birthdays with special cakes, friends, family and of course a few presents. We will also make it a tradition at Birthday time to write letters and send pictures to you if you want them. Christmas is usually held at our house and is one of our favorite Holidays. We help in the Children's Christmas Play at Church, and make a point to donate gifts to the Angel Tree at church. Decorating our House, visiting with family, baking and decorating cookies, watching the local Christmas parade, all play a role in our Christmas Traditions. At Easter, our family has an Easter Tree that we decorate with ornaments, we usually go to visit relatives in a nearby city and they have the annual egg hunt for the kids at their house. Thanksgiving is also often spent at the home of relatives, with a big meal and a game of Touch Football with the kids. For the Fourth of July, we always go to see the local fireworks display and often have a picnic at the local park. Holidays and getting together with family and friends play a big role in our lives and are some of the times we look forward to sharing with a child.
