Ted & Carrie

The only thing missing from our lives is the chance to be a family. We love each other more than anything; we have great friends and family that love and support us; we travel; we are successful in our lives and in our careers. We want nothing more than to share all of this with a child. We know that we can provide unconditional love, a safe and stable home, a great education, and the life experiences necessary to let a child achieve their dreams.

Our Hobbies

With Cat Like Tread ... Ted in the Pirates of Penzance

Ted is an entertainer trapped in the body of an engineer! He remembers singing to an office full of his mother's colleagues when he was 5 and started acting in junior high school. From that point on he has pursued his interests of theater and music. A song that he wrote while in college has now been adopted as his fraternity's official song. He recently had a singing role in The Music Man and auditions regularly for roles in our community theater.

Finished Project- Craft Hope Sock Monkeys

Carrie has a love for anything crafty. While she hasn't mastered any of them, she loves making jewelry, quilting, scrapbooking, and cooking. She is always on the lookout for new ideas. She also enjoys taking pictures. Our scrapbooks are full of scenery from all of our vacations as well as her monthly photo sessions with our nephew. She can't wait to take pictures of the baby!

Although we both have separate interests, we enjoy doing many things together. For example, we recently spent a weekend creating sock monkeys to be donated to Craft Hope for a children's burn camp in California. We had so much fun picking out colorful socks and embroidering smiling faces knowing they would be enjoyed by children many miles away. We have also worked on other projects for fun such as painting our own serving platters, building gingerbread houses, making blankets for Christmas gifts, and gathering school supplies for Teach for America.

Type of Education We Will Provide

We have a love for learning and hope to share that with your child. Like our parents did with us, we will work on homework together every night at the kitchen table to ensure that they understand the importance of working hard. We can't wait to take them to Washington DC's Smithsonian museums, Chicago's Shedd Aquarium, and the theaters of New York City. We want him/her to be able to experience first hand the thrill of discovery while learning about the culture and history around us.

We both think that a college education is important for today's children and will do what it takes to provide one for your child. We have both worked hard to complete our degrees, and we have seen first-hand that a college degree can open many doors. Not only that, but we both attribute our independence and well-roundedness to the time we spent pursuing our educations.

Our Family Traditions

Touchdown Hokies! Cheering On Virginia Tech Football with Our Nephew, Clayton

Some of our other family traditions revolve around Virginia Tech football. We've both always enjoyed college football Saturdays, so it was only natural to start going to Virginia Tech games together. We've been to at least one game every season since we started dating. The weather in Blacksburg is always great in the fall, and Hokie spirit is something you have to experience to understand. When we're not able to go to a game, we raise the Hokie Nation flag and start the morning at 10 a.m. with College Gameday.

Christmas has always been a big holiday for both of our families. With Ted's family, it's all about the stockings. Ted's Mom and Grandma spend the whole year looking for little things for everybody - matching toys for Ted and his Dad to play with, Virginia Tech gear, girly stuff for Carrie and Grandma. There are always lots of gifts to be exchanged, but we really look forward to the stockings. With Carrie's family, Christmas is always marked by a big meal, board games and family bingo. The prizes aren't much - we buy things from the dollar store to make grab bags - but the competition and laughter are enough to keep us all smiling.
