| How Adoption Has Affected Our Lives |
Brothers and Best Friends
We both love children! We have been married for over 12 wonderful years. Before we even met, we each had a desire to make adoption a part of the way we would build our family. Six years ago, we started our family by adopting our first child, Jackson. We cannot begin to tell you how much joy he has brought to our lives and to the lives of our family and friends. He is such a blessing!
We spent time with Jackson's birthparents while his birthmother was in the hospital and afterward. We talked a lot and took a lot of photos of Jackson with his birthmother and birthfather. We wanted to create as many wonderful memories as possible because we wanted to show and tell Jackson about the love that his birth family has for him. We write to his birthparents and send pictures. Jackson helps to pick out the photographs that he wishes to send and he tells us things that he wants to include in the letters. We would definitely like to send photos and letters to you and receive them from you, if this is your desire.
Todd Loves Teaching Jackson & Tanner How to Swim
Peggy comes from a very culturally diverse family. Her father is African American and Hispanic and her mother is Hawaiin and German. Growing up her family was very proud of their diversity and celebrated many aspects of each ethinicity and culture, whether through music, food, dance or tradition. Peggy~'s childhood was filled with African Dance, listening to Latin music with her father, and helping her mother cook family dinners that could include everything from brautwurst to ceviche. Now, Peggy shares these cultural traditions with Todd and their family.
Relaxing Summer Days
Our oldest son's birthmother is Caucasian and his birthfather is African American. We discuss the beauty of his ethnicity and he also sees this same cultural diversity within our own extended family. We have also created a lifebook for him. It includes pictures of his birthparents and their extended families and documents his adoption story. The lifebook allows him to learn more about his birthfamily. We feel that it is important for him to know his cultural heritage and to be proud about who he is.
Todd also comes from a very culturally rich and diverse family. His mother is Danish, French, Irish and Italian. His father is German. The influences of these ethnicities can be found in the wonderful traditions that his family celebrated the holidays and the exotic foods that his mother has helped Peggy learn to cook. Some of our favorite cultural dishes to cook and enjoy with the family include Grandma's Shortbread, sphaghetti with meatballs (it sounds simple, but it is a family secret recipe that is mouthwatering) and ceviche.
Growing up, one of Todd's family traditions was during the Christmas Holidays. Each Christmas Eve, his family celebrated with fondue! They had cheese fondue, chocolate fondue, and they even cooked steak in fondue. Peggy was introduced to this tradition during her first Christmas with Todd's family. Fourteen years later, we still make fondue a Christmas Eve tradition... and our children love it!
Our Little Blessings
We have four beautiful children. We started our family with an adoption 6 years ago. Jackson is our oldest son, and adopting him, changed our lives and blessed our entire family. Jackson is an amazing older brother and very devoted to his siblings.
Shortly after adopting Jackson, we had our second son, Tanner. Tanner is loving and affectionate and completely adores his brother and sisters. Our two year old twin daughters, Kendall and Cameron are smitten with their big brothers. They love it when their brothers read books to them, so of course, the boys love it, too!
Our children are giving, loving, considerate and respectful of one another. We continue to emphasize the love of family to them and show them unconditional love. We speak openly about adoption and they are thrilled about completing our family with a beautiful baby boy/girl.
We speak openly about adoption and our children are thrilled about completing our family with a baby boy/girl. They can't wait to take their new baby brother/sister to the zoo, teach him/her how to hunt for seashells on the beach, learn how to read, and hold hands with him/her during family walks. They have even helped us decorate the nursery. They are truly excited by the arrival of a baby into our family. We know that your baby will be adored by them.
