What Takes Priority in Our Life

Our relationship with God is first and foremost in our lives. We use the New Testament scriptures to guide our lives through direct commands and examples shown for worship and daily living. We have been blessed with the opportunity to teach children's Bible study classes for many years. Mitchell has taught ages ranging from first grade through twelfth. He regularly serves as a song leader and leading the congregation in prayer during the worship service. Peggy's Bible study classes have been with the younger children from age one to eight and, at their request, she has held bible studies with some of the teenage girls in our home.

This relationship has created a bond between the children and us, giving us the opportunity to be involved in their lives outside of the assembly. We are honored that their parents, knowing our values, include us in their lives, thus helping us in dealing with our infertility.

What It Means to Be Parents

Touring the Gardens at a Civil War Historic Site

To us, being a parent means being entrusted by God with the life of a child whose direction largely depends upon the training he/she receives. We strongly believe that the role of parents is a very important one, and we approach it with great seriousness. We understand this role to be divinely given and regulated.

We see the job of parents as more than simply providing for the child's physical needs. We look forward to providing a wholesome environment where a child can dream really big dreams, and then are encouraged to make them come true. We want to guide a child as he/she makes discoveries about themselves and the world around them. We intend to teach them that growing, learning and changing are things that should continue throughout a person's lifetime and not stop simply because a diploma is earned.

We believe that children need to know, without a doubt, that their parents love for him/her is not something that has to be earned or can be lost, and they have dignity because they are created in the image of God.

The ancient scriptures teach that if we "train up a child in the way he should go, when he is old he will not depart from it". This should be the goal of anyone wishing to be a parent.
