How Adoption Has Affected Us Personally

In May, 2005 we received a telephone call that changed our lives forever - our adoption specialist told us that Tyler's birth mom had asked to meet us. What we had thought would be a short get together for coffee turned in to a few hours and lunch with Tyler's birth mom and his two eldest birth siblings. At the end our lunch, Tyler's birth siblings handed us a card which had a photograph of his most recent ultrasound in it which said "Congratulations Sandra and Carl - you are having a boy!!"" After our meeting we both knew that Tyler's birth family would be a welcome part of our family forever. During the next six weeks, Sandra made many trips to Maine to accompany Tyler's birth mom for her doctors' visits and to meet more of Tyler's extended family.

Adopting Tyler was one of the greatest times of our life. From the beginning when we met Tyler's birthmom and siblings, we knew that we would have an ongoing relationship with their family. Tyler's birthmoms' decision to make an adoption plan was made with a great deal of thought and incredible amount of love. We have a beautiful relationship with his birth family that includes telephone calls monthly and we have visited them four times since Tyler's birth. Tyler has brought so much love and happiness into our lives that we know that having a second child would be the best gift that we could be given. Our children will always be blessed with unconditional love, support and guidance.

What We Like to Do for Fun

FUN has become totally redefined now that we have a family. It is so wonderful to see how children view the world and how much fun life can really be! We chose to rent a beach house for the summer and have had so much fun that we now plan to continue living at the beach for at least another year and will then decide if we want to move back into our other home later. Living at the beach allows us to have a much more relaxed and fun home life. We enjoy family walks at the beach as well as riding our bikes - Tyler on his tricycle, mommy on her big girl bike and Daddy on his scooter so he can keep up with Tyler. Since we have a small boat, we love to take short cruises around the harbor and Daddy is teaching Tyler how to fish too. Mr. Ice Cream Man knows that he has to make a stop by our home so we can have an ice cream if we eat all of our dinner. Our beach community offers monthly Friday evening picnics, games for the kids, and dances with a live band for everyone to attend. Although summer is our favorite time of the year, we love to play in the snow. Making snow angels, having snow ball fights and going sledding are by far our most fun snow activities. This year we look forward to experiencing snow storms at the beach too!

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect In Each Other

Happy Together

About Carl….I knew from my first date with Carl that he was the man of my dreams and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. Instantly I could tell that he had a zest for life and loved to be around people. If you have the chance to meet him, you will quickly see that he is the type of person that everybody adores! He is so good natured and wants to help everyone. Watching him spend time with his mom, you would understand why he is so easy to love - he would do anything for his family! Not only am I truly blessed to have him as my husband but he is the most wonderful father in the world. He races home each night to be with us and calls us on his way home to see that he can't wait to see us!

About Sandra….Sandra is always striving to get the most out of life. She has a high level of energy and is always looking to make life easier for her family. She is the person that her family turns to when they need support. While Sandra's brother has endured some challenges, he is always comfortable relying on Sandra as she provides him with unconditional support and promises never to judge him. Sandra is the most incredible mother and auntie. While Sandra is considered to be the "cool auntie" by our nieces and nephews, I know that Tyler and his soon to be brother or sister will consider mommie to be a "cool mommie" too! Sandra is definitely the big kid of the family.
