At Our Annual Memorial Day Celebration
We have several things that have become traditions for us. Some are relatively new and some date back many years. One of our favorite traditions is our Memorial Day celebration with Dan's family. All of his brothers and their families, Great Grandma and cousins spend the entire weekend at Dan's parents. We camp outside in tents, play games with the kids, have camp fires, play ping-pong tournaments, and eat Grandma's famous pecan cinnamon rolls for breakfast.
Since moving into our house after getting married, we have started a monthly neighborhood dinner party with other couples and their kids. Every month we rotate to the hosting family home and enjoy an evening of good food, good conversations and fun games for all. Our friends are very excited and supportive of our decision to adopt, and can't wait for another set of little feet to run around with their children. We also enjoy a new Halloween tradition; in addition to carving multiple pumpkins and displaying them at night, we also roast the pumpkin seeds with butter and salt for a tasty snack.
We have a big family and to make sure we get to spend time with all of them over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, we coordinate a lot of "pot-lucks" and progressive dinners. Each family prepares one course of a large meal, and then we travel from home to home to eat that course and play a holiday game, then we're off to the next home. By the end of the day we've eaten all we can and have shared lots of laughs and love.
Both of our families have deep, strong traditions and values that we can't wait to share with this child. Your child will be welcomed with open arms, hugs, kisses, love and support from every direction.
Summer Swim Meet with Anna
You might be wondering why we choose adoption when we already have Anna part-time from Dan's previous marriage. The answer is easy. We realize how fortunate we are to have the shared love, commitment and financial resources to give another child a home where they can feel safe, secure and loved. Not only will he/she have two parents that love them unconditionally, but they will have an older sister who will love, protect and guide them as they grow into an amazing part of our family.
We have been touched by adoption over the years as some of our friends have chosen adoption as the way to expand their families. Dan's best friend, from college, and wife have adopted all three of their daughters and we have seen the love grow in their family. Rhonda has colleagues from work who have adopted their children through American Adoptions, and they have shared their amazing, life fulfilling journey with us.
The Coach Says, Bump-Set-Spike!
Living and sharing our lives as a family is our priority, and that is the driving force behind our decision to grow our family through adoption. We believe there is more to life than just work. We want to be able to look back at our lives and know we were a part of the something bigger. We share a special, loving bond and commitment to each other and Anna, and want to share that same love and support with another child.
We are fortunate to have the ability for Dan to stay at home once we are blessed with a child through adoption, and think it is an important part of raising a family. Rhonda has a successful career in the medical field and has the ability to control her schedule. She works hard to maintain a healthy balance between work and home. We consider ourselves to be truly blessed to have the ability to put family first in everything that we do. We have seen adoption build incredible families. Creating our own family adoption story is a journey we are thrilled to begin!
Our Dogs Love to Give Wet Kisses
We both have grown up around dogs and thoroughly enjoy their companionship. We currently have a five year old chocolate lab, Bailey, and a three year old yellow lab, Sidney. They are great dogs and are a big part of our family. We enjoy taking them on walks around the neighborhood, and don't get far before the neighborhood kids come running up to hug and pet them. Our new favorite place to take them is the open fields at the local high school where we throw a tennis ball over and over for them. They're quite the retrievers.
The main reason we chose Labrador Retrievers is how well they are with adults and children of all ages. Anna loves playing with them in the backyard and even shares her bed with them at night. They're great family pets, and will lovingly welcome your child with wagging tails and wet kisses.
