We consider the north hills of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania home, but our careers have taken us all over the world. We believe that home is where our hearts are and what we make of each new experience. In every home we have lived in, we have taken great care to make it feel special - hanging family photos on the wall, setting up our son's room exactly as he likes it, and experiencing the best that our neighborhoods have offered. We currently live in a lovely farmhouse in Belgium that was built in 1883. It retains its old charm, but has been beautifully renovated and is very comfortable. We have a great kitchen that looks out on a family room with a fireplace - we spend most of our time in this cozy part of the home. We have a loft with a large play area for our family and frequent visitors, and a one-of-a-kind backyard with a great garden complete with a cistern and a chicken-run. We love to entertain in this home and family and friends visit us often. There are lots of children in the community and there is a school, a park and our favorite restaurant right down the street. Within a five-minute walk we can stroll or bike ride along a lovely canal, walk through a wooded area, or visit our favorite local Belgium bakery. And 20 minutes from our home is Europe's largest Aviary with a great zoo and park!
We have a large extended family that includes 16 nieces and nephews (Jack is # 17), two of whom are adopted. They are all wonderful, happy children. Our family lives in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, and Connecticut, and we get together as often as we can and always have a wonderful time. Randy is the youngest of four and grew up in Pittsburgh. His mom was a teacher, then a stay at home mom who has always been very active in the community and the church. His dad was a family doctor who took great care of patients and made house calls! Randy's brother took over the practice and is known by just about everyone in town. One of his sisters is a teacher, the other a businesswoman - both wonderful mothers. Randy's family is so well known in his town that we feel right at home every time we visit. Laura is the youngest of three and grew up in Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Her dad was a civil engineer and a Captain in the Navy; her mom a teacher and volunteer in the school district. Laura was adored by her two older brothers when she was a little girl and enjoys spending time with them now when they get together. Both families are a great support network and would hop on a plane instantly if we needed them. The entire family anxiously awaits the next niece or nephew!
