Our House & Neighborhood

Our Home

We are very happy in our home. We live in a three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom home at the end of a cul-de-sac in a quiet subdivision. There is a breezy three seasons room and a large basement where we currently have Rob's office and Amy's craft area. We hope to eventually re-do the basement into a fun and roomy playroom for a child, where we can hang out as a family and enjoy playing together. We have lived here since 2004, and look forward to many years here raising our family. Amy especially has enjoyed decorating and turning the house into our warm and inviting home. Our yard is quite large, and is perfect for a tricky croquet course during the summer!

Visiting the Zoo to
Celebrate Our Anniversary

We have both lived in Ohio our whole lives and in our current community for the last seventeen years. Our town is the perfect size for us. It is big enough to have plenty of stores and restaurants, yet small enough for family-oriented parks, swimming pools, and community events. Our community has various festivals, as well as very popular Halloween and Christmas parades each year. It's a big day when Santa arrives at our local mall! We are within an hour of several larger cities, and would plan to take a child to museums, zoos, and events out of town as well. Our subdivision is small enough that you know your neighbors and everyone sort of looks out for everyone else. There are several young families living there, and we are sure to start seeing more young children in the near future! We take our dog walking (almost!) every night throughout our neighborhood, and often run into other walkers to stop and chat. We believe our home and neighborhood would be a wonderful place for a child to grow up.

Our Extended Families

Amy's Family at Christmas

We are both close to our families and believe that the time we all spend together is both fun and important. Our most recent "family bonding" adventures involved separate trips to Tennessee with both sides of our family. There's something about ten hours in a van that brings people closer together! Amy’s family all live within half an hour away. We see her family quite a bit, and spend most holidays there. Amy has one sister and a brother-in-law, who have no children. They do have nephews that they are quite involved with on his side and look forward to having another little one around! We have huge holiday gatherings; complete with all the trimmings and way more food than necessary! We celebrate all of our birthdays together and have "family fun nights" for games and dinner. Amy is also able to see her parents weekly, as she works in their town once a week.

Rob's Side of the Family

We have eight nieces and nephews on Rob’s side. Unfortunately, both of Rob's parents are deceased. We enjoy getting everyone together for the holidays at least once a year. Recently we hosted everyone at our house for several days over Christmas. Seventeen people in our house was challenging but fun. Rob's family is all in Ohio except for his brother, who lives with his wife and kids in Mississippi. When we are together there's always a lot of noise and lively activity. The traditional holiday poker game has become a family favorite in recent years…all in fun, of course!

We have talked about our adoption plans a lot with our family and friends. Everyone is very supportive and hopeful that we will be blessed with a baby soon. We know that any child we are blessed to adopt will be received with open arms by both our family and friends. They know how long we have dreamed of this, and often tell us they are praying that there is a child out there who needs us as much as we need him or her. They all can't wait to meet this little person and welcome them wholeheartedly into our world.
