Our Extended Families

Michael's Extended Family

Michael: While Kristin and I have made our home in Delaware, most of my extended family lives in Florida. My mom and step dad are retired and recently purchased a large piece of land on a lake. They are building their dream house and they can’t wait until they have a houseful of grandkids to keep them busy!

My two sisters and I are working towards making that dream come true for them! Everyone in my family is thrilled we are adopting again! My sister, Shannon, gave birth to our nephew Tucker in June 2007. That made me a first time uncle and gave our son, Jackson, his very first cousin! Shannon is a real estate agent and her husband Micah owns a company with his family that reconditions old buildings. My other sister, Lindsay, gave birth to our first niece Riley in September 2007. Lindsay is going to be in her residency for medical school soon and her husband Shane is a middle school teacher.

Kristin's Extended Family

My dad and his wife live in Georgia. My dad played professional golf for the last thirty years. He is semi-retired, so he plays in events from time to time. When he isn’t playing golf, he is working at a local course teaching.

Kristin: I was raised in a very stable and loving home. I am the older of two children. My younger sister, Jess, is finishing her college education to be a Registered Nurse. She lives within minutes of our home with her boyfriend, Jeff, who works in IT. Both of my parents work, my Dad is a Chemist and my mom is a Human Resources Manager. My mom is very lucky in that she works from her home office full time!

I come from a very close-knit family and we are lucky that our living situation allows Jackson's grandparents to be a part of his everyday life. Even when our schedules get hectic, we all make sure our Sundays are spent together. In the summer you'll usually find us in the backyard enjoying our weekly barbecue. Often times, we head to the beach to play in the surf and have an oceanside picnic. During the winter, we usually stay inside for a home cooked meal and play one of our favorite games, usually Scattergories, Trivial Pursuit or Taboo.

Our House & Neighborhood

Home Sweet Home

Our home is located in suburban Delaware. One of the great things about living in Delaware is that the beaches are nearby and trips to exciting cities like Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City are less than two hours away. While we enjoy taking day trips to these destinations, we love that our home is away from the hustle and bustle of large metropolitan areas.

Our Favorite Room-the Playroom!

Our home is located in a beautiful, quiet community of traditional, colonial style homes. Our home has an open floor plan that includes five bedrooms and a home office. The center of the home is a spacious and airy eat-in kitchen, where we entertain or enjoy a leisurely meal. Our living room is comfortable, with lots of seating where we spend time together talking, playing games, watching TV or warming up by the fireplace. While we usually eat at the kitchen table, we have a lovely dining room we eat in for holidays or special occasions.

An exciting change in our home is the transformation of one of our guest rooms into a nursery! We're planning a bright, beach themed nursery and are having a great time shopping for the finishing touches that will make the room perfect!

Our favorite room to spend time in is our finished lower level that we designed as a large playroom, complete with a playground climber and countless toys and books! Our home also has a large front and back yard giving us plenty of room to play outside.

There is a strong sense of family in our neighborhood. At any time, there are countless children riding bikes, playing in the yard, or enjoying one of the neighborhood playgrounds. We love our neighborhood because it is safe and friendly. We live in the fastest growing and most desirable school district in our state. The elementary school is less than two miles from our front door!
