Currently, Theresa has three brothers. Gerry lives in Washington, DC with his wife and three children. He works in an environmental research company; his youngest son, Alex, is our godson. John is single and is an architect in New York City. Theresa shares a special bond with John because they shared the responsibility of caring for their sick father for two years. We feel we honored our parents by loving and caring for them as they had loved and cared for us. Joseph, who is an engineer, lives in California with his wife and two grown children. Michael’s sister, Lisa, is a pediatric nurse; she and her family live a few miles away from us. We usually spend Christmas or Thanksgiving with Lisa's extended family. Michael's brother, Doug, lives in Maine with his wife and son. While visiting Doug and his family over Thanksgiving this year, Doug's son Zack taught Michael some new computer skills. Mike's other brother, Terry, and his wife and son live in Connecticut. We visit with them often since they live close to where Theresa grew up and since their son, Ryan, had attended college in Massachusetts. Ryan was adopted from birth and has also encouraged us on our journey to adopt.
Michael's Extended Family
We both have experienced loss in our families. Both of us lost a sibling at an early age. Theresa's sister and Michael's brother passed away as young adults. Theresa's sister, Mary, was a nurse and always encouraged Theresa to adopt. We are close to her young son, Michael, and her husband. Michael's brother, Tom, also passed away too young. He left behind a wife, Elaine, and two children, Patrick and Tim. Mike has been very close to his nephews as they grew up and we continue to stay in contact with Elaine's family. We both have lost our parents over the last decade. We have both had special relationships with our parents and continue to hold them in our hearts.
Our House & Neighborhood
Our Home
We are lucky to live in a seaside community. We have close friends and family in the area. Our families that live out of state always love to visit us because they know we will be spending some time at the beach. We recently moved to a larger house with the vision of having an addition to our family. The house is built at the end of a private lane so it is perfect for raising a child.
At the Neighborhood Park
There are children of all ages in our neighborhood and it is very safe and quiet. The town has a wonderful school system and activities for children such as ice-skating, hockey, parks, swimming to name a few. As we've started the adoption journey we have accidentally come across many couples who have adopted and are eager to share their story and helpful information with us.
American Adoptions, a private adoption agency founded on the belief that lives of children can be bettered through adoption, provides safe adoption services to children, birth parents and adoptive families by educating, supporting and coordinating necessary services for adoptions throughout the United States.
