Our Extended Families

Elizabeth’s Family at Christmas

Elizabeth is the oldest child of two loving and caring parents. She grew up in the same town as her grandparents and spent almost every weekend of her childhood with her five cousins. Her extended family still gets together at least monthly to celebrate birthdays, holidays and nice weather with barbeques and large family meals. Her cousins have recently started families and the children are looking forward to a new cousin to join in their fun. Her family ate dinner together almost every night and often played board games or read together after the meal. Her parents are extremely excited about the adoption and are looking forward to their first grandchild. They live less than an hour away and are eager to take him or her out for ice cream, for rides in their antique car (a 1931 Plymouth), hide Easter eggs and pile the Christmas tree high with presents.

Adam’s Family

Adam is the middle child sandwiched between an older brother and younger sister. Although he is 6'2" he is the shortest male in his family - his dad is 6'8" and his brother is 6'6"! As a family they traveled extensively around the United States and abroad. One of the most interesting trips involved riding camels to the Pyramids in Egypt. Growing up the family supported each other by attending athletic competitions and dance and music recitals. They also ate dinner together each night. Adam's brother is a teacher and has two young daughters with one more on the way and his sister is nearby in Boston. He is also the god-father to three young children and Elizabeth and Adam love to spend time babysitting and playing with them. Adam's parents (Opa and Nana) are retired and are looking forward to being able to spend lots of time with their newest grandchild.

Our House and Neighborhood

The View Across the Lake

We live on the campus of a small boarding school in Connecticut. This is very unique and we couldn’t be happier here. Most of the faculty and their families live here because it is such a great place to raise children. In just the past 12 months 3 babies were born to the faculty and there are many more toddlers, children and teenagers on campus that are friends and love living here. The children have open fields to run on, playing fields to practice sports on, swing sets to play on, trails to hike on, a pond to skate on in the winter and two gyms to play in. Learning how to ride a bike will be no problem since there are many private roads that cars rarely use. Children are invited to participate in school plays with the students and are invited to go on school trips to different cities like New York and Boston and on skiing trips to Vermont. Living on the campus also means that they get to meet so many people of all different ages, races and experiences. Interestingly, there are a large number of adopted students at the school and they were all so excited to learn that we were adopting. We know your child will have so many positive role models growing up and will learn how to interact with all different types of people.

Picking Blueberries on Campus

Our home is on the top of a mountain and the campus is surrounded by forests and fields. It’s not uncommon to see deer or turkeys running through the field behind our house. A huge blueberry patch runs along one side of campus and we enjoy picking berries from August to October. During the fall people flock from all over to see the beautiful colors of the changing leaves and to pick pumpkins and apples.

Our campus housing is a welcoming and very spacious two-bedroom walk out apartment in a faculty housing building. There is plenty of room for a child to play and grow. In addition, as our family grows we will move into a larger home on campus.
