Debra’s Family at the Beach

Both of our families are very close with each other. Debra’s parents are both retired now and recently moved her grandmother in with them. She has two siblings, a sister and a brother, who are both married with children. Her brother's family has always lived close by which enabled us to spend a lot of time together. Debra's sister lives on the West Coast with her family. Even though they are on the other side of the country they talk several times a week and visit each other several times a year.

Don’s Family at the Mountains

Don’s parents live about 30 minutes away and own and operate the family construction business. Don has one brother who is also married with children. His brother's family lives next door to his parents. Don's grandparents live a couple hours away. Both brothers work together daily with their father running the family business. Don has a huge family with lots of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

Both of our families have family members who have adopted, been adopted or placed a child in adoption and are very supportive and excited about our adoption plans.

Our Home

Virginia has beautiful beaches, mountains, historical locations, parks and is within a few hours drive to Washington DC, Maryland, West Virginia, and North Carolina.

Our community is only minutes from parks, shopping and activities but was developed outside of town in a wooded area around a lake with five acres devoted to each home site. It's a peaceful country setting where kids are safe riding their bikes or fishing at the lake. The homeowners participate in neighborhood watch and plan events such as hayrides, Halloween parties, summer cookouts, and other outings to maintain a safe and fun environment.

Our Pond and Yard

We fell in love with our house the first time we saw it. It's a custom log cabin home that has a warm and cozy feeling with all of the latest amenities. Because of the way it's situated on the lot, it looks rather small from the front, but once you get inside you're amazed at how much room there is. The first floor has a living room with a stone fireplace that opens up to the kitchen/dining area with a deck off of the back that makes you feel like your in a tree house. There is a half bath and master bedroom on that level. The upper level has three large bedrooms and a full bath with open beam cathedral wood ceilings. The lower level was unfinished when we moved in and has since been made into a huge game room with wood floors, a wood stove surrounded by a stone hearth and doors that open up to a portion of our property that is fenced in for our dogs, Max and Chloe. The game room has an entertainment system, sectional, a pool table, a pinball machine, dart board and a game table. Most of our family gatherings are held there because we have so many different things for everyone to participate in. We also created a pond out in front of our home which has now become a favorite place to watch the fish, frogs, deer and other wildlife.
