Our Extended Families

Sue’s Family at the Beach

Sue is the youngest of three. She has two older brothers, both of whom are married and have children. One brother has a daughter and the other has a son and daughter. Sue's parents will soon be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They are both retired and for the past several years have spent part of their time traveling all over the world. Sue's parents visit several times a year and cannot wait for an excuse to visit more often.

Though Sue's family live in Maryland, we still remain close through phone calls and emails. We spend Christmas together, as well as a week in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and other visits throughout the year.

Randy’s Parents at Our Wedding

Randy is adopted and although he is an only child, he has a huge extended family. His father has 17 brothers and sisters so Randy has more cousins than he can count. Randy's parents will be celebrating their 41st wedding anniversary this year. His father owns his own computer consulting business and is looking forward to retiring before the end of this year. Randy's mother is a retired day care teacher and is looking forward to spending more time with his dad.

We enjoy spending time with Randy's parents in Cape Cod Massachusetts at least once a year, and they usually come and spend Thanksgiving with us. Though both Randy and Sue's families are separated by many miles we maintain very close relationships.

A holiday tradition we all have enjoyed for the past 8 years is spending Christmas together. Randy has a cousin who lives very close to Sue's family. Every year Randy's mom and dad drive down from Massachusetts and both of our families spend Christmas Day together.

Both Randy and Sue's families are excited about their decision to adopt a child. Our nieces and nephews cannot wait to have another cousin and ask constantly when he or she will arrive. Randy's parents are also very supportive as they know first hand the joys of adopting a child.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

When we bought our house five years ago it was with our future family in mind. It is a new community with children of all ages. Our home is located off of a secondary road so traffic is minimal, and there are lots of places to go for walks and ride bikes. With a new pool, tennis courts, playground, walking paths and two lakes, our neighborhood is also a great place for a family to have fun. Our neighborhood community center has at least one festival per year. It is usually in the fall, and there are space jumps, hayrides and other fun activities. It gives everyone a chance to meet new neighbors and re-connect with others.

Enjoying a T-Ball Game

Our house is one story with an open floor plan. There is a spacious living room, right off the kitchen, and three bedrooms. We have a huge backyard that is ready for a swing set and hours of fun times. Our neighborhood is close to schools and parks. The school system is one of the best in the state. For fun there is a minor league baseball team nearby, a natural science museum, a fantastic water park, and a new children's museum is nearly complete. There is also a great community sports and recreation program with activities for kids including soccer and t-ball.
