Our Extended Families

Our Families on Our Wedding Day

Matthias: A village amidst fields and meadows, traversed by small woods: that is where I grew up. My family lived in a beautiful house with a big garden. I grew up together with my grand-parents, my parents and my brother, who is three years older than me, and they gave me all the love possible. Apart from myself and my brother there were a lot of other boys and girls of the same age on our street, with whom I played soccer, tag or hide-and-seek and had quite a number of little "adventures" out in the nature. I often remember these great times, especially the stories and fairy tales my grandma told me. Although my father and my brother no longer live in the same region, they are still very much in my life. We call each other on a regular basis and get together several times a year.

Opening Christmas Presents with Family

Petra: I'm the elder of two children born to my parents. My younger brother is not only my brother but also my best friend. Both of us are very thankful to our parents for bringing us up in constant love, flexibility and security, at the same time leaving enough room for our own experience and independence. I gladly remember my happy childhood with many friends in the neighborhood. When the weather was good we used to roam about in the nearby park; when it rained, we liked to play with our Barbie dolls, or we were busy playing Monopoly and children's card games. The birthday parties my mother arranged for me and my friends each year were wonderful highlights. I'm very close with my family and visit my parents frequently. We phone every day and take intensively part of each other’s life.

Both our families are very exited for us to adopt and support us in every way. They look forward to becoming grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, godparents for the second time.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in Germany not far away from Heidelberg. Our country is one of the big 7 industrial nations in the world. We have a great cultural diversity, charming towns and attractive landscapes. Peaceful co-existence with people from other countries and cultures has become a part of everyday life. Open-minded, modern, tolerant and friendly are the hallmarks of our society. For the vast majority of people, the family forms the nucleus of their lives and nowadays couples share domestic chores and the raising of children is done as parent partners.

On a Bicycle Trip

Education policy in Germany aims to provide each individual with the best possible education and vocational training that corresponds to their interests and abilities. Kindergardens, schools and universities are in general run by the state, are of high quality standard and are available for everybody. We live in the peripheral area of a town with 100,000 inhabitants. Our town is a very child friendly place with a lot of families who have children for our children to play with. The area we live in is the same as any American city with schools, shopping centers, doctors, and recreational facilities all within walking distance. Our house is located at the edge of the town and we need to walk only a few blocks to enjoy the beautiful greenery. Our house has a spacious living and dining area, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a beautiful garden.
