We moved to the US from Denmark 8 years ago and love it here. Both our parents are still alive and we have a sister each.
Helle’s sister has three children and Per’s sister has one child so far. We have large extended families, including uncles, aunts, cousins and even our parents' cousins and their children, and they are all very supportive of us wanting to adopt and are looking as much forward as we do.
Per’s Extended Family
But all in all we don't feel that we see our families and friends enough, so moving back to Europe is definitely in the cards for us down the road. Our families are also very eager for us to move back, so we are planning to find a villa in the Tuscan countryside in Italy close to Florence, because from there it will be easy for us to have family and friends over and to go to Denmark on frequent visits. Italy is so amazingly beautiful and charming, and it is also a wonderful country for children to grow up in.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our Home
We live in a small town in a cute house that we love. Our home has four bedrooms upstairs, a living room, spacious kitchen, a family room, and dining room downstairs. The family room has been converted into one huge playroom full of toys, with room for all sorts of games and activities. The neighborhood is safe and it has great schools.
Vacationing in Yosemite
It has been voted one of the country's best small towns to live in. It is very pretty and has countless lakes and parks. The nature surrounding the town is majestic and pristine and most of the lakes are great to swim in, which is fun during the summer months. There's also a huge national park close by and mountains where people go skiing in the winter. The ocean is not far away either and the beaches here are beautiful.
Our town is very culturally diverse, mostly because of a few big companies situated nearby that hire a lot of specialized workers. Every year there are about 1500 new people moving here from abroad, so the area is full of people from all over the world, a fact that we enjoy. Just on our small street there are people from Britain, Lebanon, India and Denmark. To our surprise we also found a large Danish community here, so we joined their playgroups and other social functions, and now have people with whom we can speak Danish and celebrate our Danish holidays and traditions. It is great, especially during those times when we feel a bit homesick.
