We live in a lovely coastal community in North Carolina. Our home is situated on an island in a private neighborhood just steps from the beach and we have boat access with a dock. Our neighborhood has quiet, paved roads which are perfect for bike riding. There are other young families in our community as well. Any day you can see children playing in the common areas, riding their bikes, and climbing neighborhood trees. Our community has a waterfront park with a playground and there are always family activities such as music, festivals, and movie nights. We are members of the community center, which offers a gym, educational classes, dance, and other sports activities for all ages.
Our house is situated on a landscaped corner lot with a white fence around the yard and large, curved oak trees which are great for climbing or swinging! Our home is 3 stories with 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and a garage where we store all of our water, camping, and bike gear. We have 2 large decks on the 2nd and 3rd floors. We spend most of our time in the family room, kitchen, and screened-in porch with views of the yard and intracoastal waterway. The bedrooms and a bathroom are on the 3rd floor with amazing sunset views from our bedroom. Our child will have their own room with a cool balcony and cozy play area, also. Our home and community are great for raising a family!
We come from a close family, including Holly’s parents, Grant’s parents and Grant’s sister and her family. We are fortunate to have both of our parents and Grant’s sister within two hours of us. Grant’s sister is also named Holly, which can be confusing at times! Everyone comes to our home for Thanksgiving for a huge, traditional feast and we travel to our parents’ homes for Christmas. Our niece and nephew enjoy coming to visit us at the beach and we enjoy spending time with them during the holidays. We make the most of that time together with the children, either by playing pool, riding bikes, or playing with their toys or games. We love watching them open their presents on Christmas morning and we can hardly wait to have that experience with our own child.
Holly’s parents live the closest to us and will be readily available to help us when our child arrives. Both of our parents are overjoyed with our decision to expand our family, especially through adoption. Holly’s mother was adopted and we can provide that same loving and nurturing environment Holly’s mother had as an adopted child. In addition to our own family, we are extremely close to our friends and their children. We love spending time with them as well and truly consider them as part of our extended family. There is so much love and support for this child already and our parents and friends are anticipating their arrival into our home.
