We live in a cozy, suburban, planned community that is just minutes away from the city. All of the conveniences of a city as well as the majesty of nature are all within a twenty minute drive of where we live. Our town is culturally diverse and boasts many opportunities to enjoy and learn about other cultures. Our community itself is filled with biking and walking trails, community parks, a community center with a swimming pool, and lots of events geared toward the young families that live here. Between ice cream socials, play groups, holiday parades and cookie swaps, there is always something delightful for children being hosted by the community. Our house is right across the street from the elementary school and there are numerous families of different backgrounds and with children of all ages living around us. We have enjoyed the peaceful setting and neighborly feel of our community for the past ten years now.
Our house is a one-story ranch style house with four bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms. Our favorite parts of the house are the soaring vaulted ceilings and the large living room because it is ideal for family time and enjoying one another. We love to spend time at home because it is an oasis for us and home improvement projects are a fun way that we have found to work together and to transform this lovely house into a warm and beautiful home.
This child is a much anticipated blessing for our entire family! Mat has an older sister and Julia has three younger brothers who are all excited by the prospect of becoming aunts and uncles. Our parents and grandparents also can not wait until they can proudly show off their first grandchild or great-grandchild! The majority of our family lives within an hour’s drive of us, with Julia’s mother, grandmother, brother and sister-in-law practically just down the street! We frequently get together in large reunions or smaller get-togethers, and when we do, it is always a fun time filled with food, games and conversation! One of our favorite family traditions is to get together on Christmas Eve for a simple meal of soup and bread and spend the day exchanging gifts, playing games, and listening to Christmas music. Our house has become a home base for many of these types of family gatherings and we relish every moment of them! Each of our family members have expressed to us how overjoyed they are of our plans to adopt. Because we have spent many years pursuing adoption, we have had the opportunity to have conversations with our family in how they can best support us and our new child as we form our own family unit and to help raise a child who can feel proud that he/she came to our family because he/she was chosen and deeply longed for by each of us!
