We live in a quiet suburban neighborhood in Arkansas with lots of trees and little traffic - perfect for kids (and parents!) who enjoy playing outside. We own a two-story home on a fenced lot with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, featuring an open floorplan ready for dances and parades through the living room and kitchen downstairs. An elementary school with playground stands at the edge of the neighborhood, where we would walk or drive our child to school every day. Our homeowner's association supports a community swimming pool and tennis courts for recreation, and youth baseball and soccer fields are less than three miles away.
Just past the athletic fields is a popular local shopping center, which hosts an annual trick-or-treat event every October. A local forest sets up drive-through Christmas lights every December. Our immediate area also features numerous public parks, walking and biking trails, and a community compound including a youth fishing pond, a playground, a police station, and a public library. The library offers a summer reading club and weekly events throughout the year for kids of all ages, such as scheduled storytimes, a Lego building club, a Pokemon club, and free family movie screenings. Our neighborhood is nestled between two grocery stores and three churches, so all of the essentials are nearby. And Zeb works for the local Children's Hospital, which recently earned Magnet Certification for excellence, so our child would receive the same excellent level of care.
We have wonderful and supportive family and friends nearby, including Nicole's parents, her sister, her brother-in-law, and their kids. Nicole's parents have been married to each other for over 40 years and are regular fixtures in our lives, often getting together with us for family dinners, game nights, movies, or just mutually helping out at each other's houses. Zeb often sings the national anthem at local baseball games, which Nicole's parents and nephew will also attend to enjoy the evening out together. Every Christmas Eve, a highlight of everyone's year is when the whole family gathers at her parents' house for cookies, cocoa, coffee, and eager anticipation of the next day's excitement.
Zeb's mother and sister live further away in Houston, where he grew up, but we still keep in contact and like to visit whenever we can. Zeb was raised on attending baseball games in the Astrodome with his mom, so their mutual love of the Houston Astros remains a vibrant link to his family and his childhood home. His mom is a music teacher and a gifted singer, and as such she passed along her passion for music; Nicole's mom is likewise an extremely talented artist, which helped inspire Nicole's passion for art, so we cannot wait to share these creative gifts with our child.
Both of our families are equally excited and supportive of our adoption plan, and eager to help in raising this child in every way that they can!
