We have lived in our city in West Michigan for approximately eleven years and we love it. Our home is a petite, single story house built during the 1950's. The home is just over one thousand square feet in size, including three bedrooms, one bathroom, a living room, a kitchen, and a dining room. It's cozy and comfortable, and will fit a family of four well. Our house is decorated inside with warm colors, patterns, and textures. There are almost always flowers growing inside or outside depending on the season. Where we live, we do get a healthy dose of all four seasons. We enjoy them all, but are glad to have central air conditioning and lots of windows for those warmer days, and central heat for the cold winter months.
We have small front and back yards where kids can play and Heather can flower garden. She is always adding or rearranging plants, and often includes Jacob Jr. in the planting process. Jacob Jr. loves using the yard to play in the snow during the winter or leaves during the fall. Our backyard has a deck and also contains the pen for our friendly, snow-loving Siberian Husky named Nika.
Our neighborhood is friendly, with people waving or saying hello in passing and neighborhood kids playing outside. We live on a street with minimal traffic which ends in a cul-de-sac on one end, and an elementary school with a playground at the other. There are also several nearby splash pads, pools, and parks for children to enjoy during the warm summer months.
Jake has two older siblings and three younger siblings who live out-of-state. Jake’s sister is married and has two adorable children ages 2 and 4. We love to visit with them whenever we can and often find ourselves exploring child-friendly museums together. We have very little contact with Jake’s mother but have a good relationship with his dad and step-mother. We are also very close to Jake's grandmother (G.G.). Jake’s extended family is pretty large and they adore children. We enjoy connecting with Jake’s dad’s extended family every year and sharing a meal during the Holiday season. Jake’s whole family is supportive of our adoption.
Heather has an older sister and a younger brother. Her sister, brother-in-law, and their four kids live only twenty minutes away. Jacob Jr. loves to spend as much time as he can with his cousins (two that are older and two that are younger than him). Her brother lives several states away for work, so we don’t get to see him as much as we would like. Heather’s Grandfather and two of her second-cousins are adopted, and her extended family is supportive of our adoption. Heather’s parents (Mewmaw and Papa) live only two and a half hours away. We see them often and frequently travel for vacations with them. Our favorite places to visit with them include Silver Dollar City in Missouri and indoor water parks like in Wisconsin Dells. We can’t wait to include a future sibling on our fun trips.
